Another vision question.
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to JenniferInOhio's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
I had problems with vision,,blurry greying out etc. Went to opthamologist and had pictures taken of my optic nerve and optic disc. Turns out I have a significant amount of swelling--which could lead to a stroke. He said the high blood pressure that can happen with forinef, being overweight contributes. He put me on lavix and eye drops which give me every bit as much of side effects as pills. And I must see him in 2 weeks, unless my vision changes sooner. I saw a neuro-opthamologist, just happenned to be the one they put me with. He compared pictures from all previous times. He let me look at the pictures, so I would understand. Actually scare the **** out of me. Miriam -

Dysautnomia speciality clinics in the US
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to hopeful-girl's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
Diane, I spent 2 weeks there. It depends upon tests that you need to prepare for, and how many other specialists they weave you in with. Miriam -

When does the guilt stop?
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to Mrs. Glass's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
FYI I lived in Vanessa's neck of the woods for four years. They startes stripping veins, because of my increases blood flow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is by no means exagerating about the availability of care. The thing is the health care agencies there seemed to have genuinly competent folk working there. I might try that, even if your daughter chooses to move. Miriam Nittany Lions Roar -

If I were you, I would call Cleveland and talk to the healthcare providers you saw there. And I would keep calling them. I had a couple problems after going to Mayo and the MAyo dr. actually called my Doc here!!!! You MAY need to adjust you work schedule temporarily, but unless thats what the Cleveland people say I would try to hold out. As for Vanessas comment about therapy. If anyone is thinking about it. Get someone who you are comfortable with. The report from my therapist whom I have seen for 2 years is what won my case!!!! The judge held it up and said "If I could get more repotrs like this it would make my job much easier" I was approved in 10 days and got a check within 30 days. So I would plan for that possibility also. Blessings.......Miriam

update from Michigan Jan
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to michiganjan's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
Jan, I wored at a major cancer hospital as a chaplain. I can say there are miracles. Unexplained remissions. Time granted. I think that checking other sites for their treatment , and talking about it with your doc helps. Please take time to be together. Talk always. Sometimes you (we) must become warriors. As we defend and protect ours it gives us a sense of power. While the method the doc used to give you the news was blunt, you are aware, its better to know all possibilities. I pray for you daily. Please pm me if there is anything I can do or if you need anything Miriam -
Vanessa, Forgot to add this on pm. Please call and get the sleep study done ASAP. It not only tells what happens while sleeping but during the day problems that are there. Miriam

Hello, Don't have much more to add everyone has been so helpful. This is her issue. You say "I want her..." She needs to figure out what she needs to have. I think it would be a disservice to her and the other students to simply not require her to fulfil the same requirements for the class. While from the outside they may seem superfulous, the professor may have very good reasons. When I was in Seminary I had a car accident and had a head injury, had problems with memory etc.... I had testing. My doctor wrote a letter stating that I should get the progessors notes, take exams with notes and in a quiet room. Your daughter may have different accomodations that would work for her. And I definately hope that you talk with her and ask her to make some decisions about her needs and have her write a letter and send to all professors and office of disability. That way she is in charge. Alternately I would tell her where you feel you would need to step in and contact the school. That way ther is clarity where you both stand. Good luck... Miriam

I've been getting B-12 shots for almost 10 years. My liver enzymes were off. When I went to Mayo in Jan. we discussed this, levels were still off, but have a "fatty liver". So, I get a rather large injection every momth. The dog gets his heartworm pill and I get B-12...!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I keep telling my husband not to mix them up. Magnesium is a different and complicated one I know that with certain medications increasing magnesium helps. Miriam

Welcome Sorry this is a "pots hole" for you. I would suggest that you sepulmonologist (lung) Dr. ASAP. They can have someone come to your home and put a "pulse Oxomet" on you finger, and it will register you O2 levels. Long story, this has helped me immensely. Blessings... Miriam e a

Dysautnomia speciality clinics in the US
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to hopeful-girl's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
Actually if your doctor sends your records and a letter to Dr. Low personally, you will get seen much sooner. I was offerred an appointment 6weeks from time he received records. My ins. however couldn't get it together for another 4 mos. Also regarding follow up. I received business cards from all Docs seen. My PCP has them all and reguarly discussed issues with her. Good Luck. Miriam -
Doctors are SO FRUSTRATING
Miriam Poorman-Knox replied to hopeful-girl's topic in Dysautonomia Discussion
Dtill thinkin that the best thing may be to sit down with the hemmoroid with an advocate and go over para by par and find out why he felt he needed it written that way. Be "professional" even if he wasn't. And ask what he suggests(with the support person of course). Before I was first diagnosed I passed out in a hospital parking lot for 3 hrs before someone finding me, and another 3 inside. My note said that I went to see my mom and was so stressed that my family members showed up(not) that this was why I passed out and became dehydrated. I wrote and asked that this be re-written and the hospital said it wasn't their "work product". The doctor totally ignored my attempts to contact him. So I understand the frustration. Still think we shouldn't give away any power you had. Thinkin about you, and wishin I was ready for a "Road Trip"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Miriam
