p8d
We recently had a discussion of tips for dealing with over exertion but I am wondering what your symptoms are. Besides soul destroying fatigue I get low-grade fever, body aches, cold symptoms, sore throat, a bit of post nasal drip and erratic BP/HR. BP sometimes low, sometimes high same with HR. I don’t which is POTS except BP/HR, UCTD (mouth sores and mala rash definitely) or maybe CFS. What are your symptoms? TIA.
DizzyGirls
Have you ever been tested for Lupus? A lot of your symptoms sound like symptoms of lupus.
p8d
Thanks Dizzygirls. I have undifferentiated connective tissue disease which in my case is not quite lupus but something on the spectrum. What I don’t understand is the sore throat. I’m just curious what others get as a flare from over exertion.
dancer65
I have CFS I get swollen glands in my neck lower abdominal and underarms as well as sore throat and low body temperature . Can't lift my arms above shoulder height for pins and needles and if I persist I faint . A general feeling of no energy avaiable in my limbs .High low BP and HR. Cold sweats migraines and bad sleep to name a few ! Sometimes it's hard to know what's POTS VVS or CFS !
DizzyGirls
My mom, who has Lupus, UCTD, and EDS used to get a sore throat off and on. My oldest daughter, who has EDS, Dysautonomia, and possibly Lupus, gets a sore throat every time her body is stressed. Seems to be one of her standard signs of overexertion. Lainy
For me, it's primarily that "soul-crushing fatigue" with an all-over heavy feeling... like I'm lugging around lead-filled limbs. Lots of muscle aches, headaches, some cold-like symptoms. Blurry vision and dizziness get worse. I also have a severe drop in appetite, which does nothing to help me recover : /
Debbie Rose
I get the "soul-crushing" fatigue right after exercising with tachy and shortness of breath. The HR and breathing go away with 30 min of reclined sitting but the fatigue lasts all day
Gillian
When I get fatigued (you know, fatigued for a fatigued person), I start to lose my voice. At first, it sounds like I've had a cold and lost it, then I sound like I screamed all night at concert the night before, and then I'm down to a whisper. Somewhere in the middle of all that, I might get a sore throat, but not every time. I have noticed that the worse it gets, the more it's like I just can't push any more air or volume out, not that my actual voice doesn't work. RecipeForDisaster
That's interesting, I get this too. It's like I'm just too weak to talk. I never connected it, just thought it was one of my weren't features that sometimes I have no voice for no reason.
Lainy
That's something I hadn't paid attention to, either... but becoming extremely quiet and soft spoken does happen to me too. Like Gillian said, I think it has to do with being so physically tired you don't even have the strength to push air out to talk.
Ihope
Back to bedridden& tachycardia & tinnitus much worse. I find it hard to pace because i am so enthused when my symptoms drop off enough to do some stuff.
mammy59
This is a frequent symptom for me and has been since this disorder became disabling in 2000. It has nothing to do with my throat, I had a doctor just swear it was due to GERD, I finally gave in and had an endoscopy last year, there's absolutely nothing wrong with my throat or anything else in that area ;). The problem is neurological and when my b/p or h.r. are low, or I'm drained, or in severe Fibro pain,,,,my voice becomes hoarse. I don't even know if my husband understands everything I say, lol
WinterSown
My thigh bones throb. Nothing helps except time. And a lot of soaking with epsom salts. I lay down on the bed and it feels like gravity is pressing me into the mattress. I know that getting up and walking around will help my circulation but I am stuck on that bed until I sleep it off. I hack a lot too now--I think I'm just throwing off toxins. Hack hack hack. I think spring allergies are whacking me too. Plain jane aspirins seem to help better than anything else for the pain. Lainy
Does anyone else struggle with nausea when you're overexerted? That's been the main thing I struggle with lately which makes recovery hard when I don't feel like I can keep down food, water, or the extra salt I need. Another symptom for me is instability in my left leg. I feel like it's going to buckle on me and almost feels like I'm dragging it behind me because it's not moving/responding like usual... But it's only ever a problem in my left leg when I'm overexerted? Anyone have ideas for the cause on that one? I'm baffled.

You might have always had a weaker leg or side, a lot of us do, and it's being aggravated by your other symptoms and/or you are over doing it with exercise and activities and you need to do a little less for a while. If your leg weakness increases or is alarming to you in any way then call your primary and talk about coming in for a visit, or your neuro can check your gait and balance too. I was assessed by my neuro and DPT for left-sided weakness. When I am exhausted or just plain tired that left foot is going to drag and then whammo, I'm careening across the room--I will trip almost every time I am tired. I've been in PT consecutively for over a year for strength, balance and gait and it has been very helpful; I have a lot less bumps and bruises 💃. I cannot drink cold drink water right away after hard exertion or I will hurl it right back up. I have to take sips of cool or room temp water to slowly re-hydrate for the first few minutes, then I can drink more without it causing stomach upset. Pistol
Yes - these symptoms are quite familiar to me. If I overdo things or am facing an upcoming flare I start out with nausea. I take Zofran for intractable nausea and then eat saltines followed by a few sips of ginger ale just so I can keep down my meds. Then I either get better and start loading salt and fluids or I have to go to the hospital for IV fluids. I am also aware of the weakness in one leg - before I became disabled I would be at work and whenever I got tired I started to limp on the left side - but there was nothing wrong with my leg! I also tend to lean to the left side whenever I loose my balance or pass out. Go figure!
Lainy
Thank you both for your replies - It's always a comfort to know I'm not alone. I don't have any meds for nausea(partly because most knock me out) but I will ask my Dr next time we meet up and maybe start with some lukewarm tea next time. Maybe she'll have an idea about some PT for my left leg, too. It gets a little dangerous wobbling around like that.
AB+72
I just get to where my heart rate doesn't want to calm down. And yeah, fatigue. I've gotten to the point that I just don't push myself much any more. I don't like being laid up. Lately I've been more laid up from not even over exertion. Just stuff.... I'm sure I'm starting to sound like a broken record about that. SORRY!! But it is why I'm on here now. Trying to peal back the layers of yuck and gain back some vitality. If possible. clicky77
This describes me at the moment, in a flare for over 3 weeks now. Nausea, migraine/aura, fatigue, rapid heart rate, sob, chest tightness/pain, lightheaded, sinus probs, stiffness and pain and so on all because I was sitting up in my wheelchair too long in a warm room. When your leg buckles, is it like it almost snaps back and forth that if you would not catch it in time, your kneecap might break? I get this when I am over-exerting, then I start to step but not full steps and in twisted steps and injure my legs by doing so. I also get nausea when overworking, but it goes away after I relax for a little while. I remember once trying to work out with weight as a teen and getting sick for two days afterwards. That was many years before I even suspected I had problems. I know I have always had this now remembering having elevated blood pressure as a child. Kids do not have clogged up arteries and high blood pressure the doc told my parents. I been having a weird go at things this week from deadly low BP to extremely high to everything in between lol. I don't know what to do because I have no specialist to talk to.

I've been tempted to wear a brace on bad days to prevent that back-an-forth wobble(which is even worse when I can hyperextend) to avert any injury while I'm overexerted and recovering. I have instability in my hip and ankle, too but maybe supporting the one joint that's most likely to buckle will help... I have several braces, so there's no excuse not to try it. clicky77
Thank you AB+72 and pistol. I waiting to hear from my Neurologist as my G.P made an urgent referral, maybe they will give me IV fluids.

You know, I get the same effect, except everything that has a sedative gives me a paradoxical effect and it’s a tachy panic filled nightmare. Anyway, just wanted to add...There is one brand of odansetron (zofran) by the manufacturer Mylan. Does not make you sleepy and is ODT. Maybe ask your doctor if you can try it. I also take peppermint beadlets by Doterra from amazon. It’s a life saver along with having a little peppermint oil on a tissue and holding it under your nose. I get a gross feeling in my stomach when my food doesn’t want to digest so it helps give you a refreshing feeling. Hope that helps. It’s no fun!
