  1. I have asthma and have noticed that some foods make me a little wheezy. I try to avoid those foods. A couple of years ago I noticed that after I ate some peanut butter fudge I felt a little wheezy. Ever since then I have avoided peanuts just to be on the safe side. On Tues, Mom had me over to eat and she had fried potatoes. I ate a couple and commented that they were good. She said she fried them in peanut oil. I calmly said, "Mom, didn't I tell you I was trying to avoid peanuts?", but inside I was freaking out thinking, now what? Just a few minutes later I started having this huge adrenaline rush feeling and my heart started racing and pounding. Next, I started feeling all weak and trembly. I ended up taking 4 teas. of Benadryl. I felt bad the rest of the afternoon (from the attack or too much Benadryl which can also make my heart race? I don't know) Today I called my allergist who said it was highly unlikely that I had a reaction to the peanut oil because it is refined which takes out all the proteins which is the part people are allergic to. She said even people with peanut allergies can eat peanut oil. I found that hard to believe so I looked it up on Wikipedia, which confirmed what she said. So now I wonder, if it wasn't an allergic reaction what was it? Did I have a panic attack that lasted for a long time? Was it POTS related? Was I coming down with something that just happened to hit, out of the blue, at that moment? (I have been feeling pretty "potsy" and bad since it happened, but off and on. It is a mystery.
  2. I did not tolerate it well. I had shortness of breath and chest pain and tachycardia. I might be allergic to it or just intolerant of it.
  3. No, I don't have that problem. I wonder if an H-2 would be necessary for me since I don't have acid reflux.
  4. I get this too. It feels like an electical jolt through my brain.
  5. My reaction to trying to stop Florinef is not typical. I had a very strong negative reaction and have not been able to get off of it. It sounds like you are getting along much better than I have. When trying to reduce my dosage I had a very high HR, high blood pressure, extreme weakness, adrenaline rushes, and tremors. I have tried reducing by 1/4 a pill but that was too drastic for me. My husband is going to start filing off tiny amounts of the pill and measuring them to be consistent. I am going to try going off of it very, very slowly.
  6. Thanks for the ideas. I took zyrtec many years ago when it was prescription. What does the zantac do?
  7. I tried Singulair more than once, but it's a med I simply cannot tolerate. I have the fast pounding heartrate and tremors with it. I did take accolate, which is similar, for a few months. My current allergist won't put me on it because she fears it might damage my liver ( I should have asked why, but didn't). I can't use albuterol because it makes my heart race. If my allergies get really bad (which doesn't happen much after the allergy shots) I take Benadryl. I also use Rhinocort Aqua, which is a steroid nasal spray, to control nasal allergies. When I first started taking Florinef, my dr. started me on a whole pill in a.m. and another whole pill in p.m. I do have a lot of trouble sleeping. My dr. suggested switching the dose I take now (1/2 in a.m. and 1 whole in p.m.), but with my sensitivity to the florinef I can't hardly do that. The Florinef doesn't seem to have helped me much compared to before I took it, except in the early morning. I wish I'd never started taking it. I know I need to start weaning off it, I am just terrified to try, to be honest. When I go for any dr. appt. I get all stressed out because I know my bp will be up and they will tell me I need to stop the florinef.
  8. I had considered that this could be an adrenal fatigue issue, but my dr. said florinef is not that kind of steroid. He is very puzzled as to what is causing this reaction. As a matter of fact, I am rather disgusted with him right now. He said there is nothing else he can do for me. He suggested I go to Dr. Grubb, but with my extreme medication intolerance, I don't see what the point is. I wonder if you could be right, though. I think I'll do some research on adrenal fatigue and see if it sounds familiar. Thanks for your reply!
  9. I forgot to mention that I also use Pulmicort inhaler (an inhaled steroid) every day. I missed a puff one day and had a very similar, but slightly milder, reaction.
  10. I have posted about this before, but I wanted some more opinions. I know everyone is not on here everyday. I take Florinef and have for 4 years. I decided to stop taking it because my blood pressure was rising. My pharmacist said I could just stop taking it. I didn't take my p.m. dose and in the middle of the night, I woke with horrible tachycardia, pounding heart, dizziness, tremors, horrible adrenaline rushes that wouldn't stop. Went to my cardiologist the next morning with blood pressure 160 over something and all the symptoms above. I felt horrible for over a week, even after trying to resume the florinef. I did change the dose from a whole pill in the a.m. and a whole pill in the p.m. to a half in the a.m. and whole in p.m. Now, if I am even a few minutes late taking the florinef, my heart races, adrenaline rushes, feel bad for hours. I have to take the pill on an empty stomach because if I eat with it, that delays the medication from getting into my system a little and the horrible symptoms start. As a result, I can't eat from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (I take the pill at 9:30) and at night I can't eat between the hours of 6:45 and ? (I don't eat until breakfast) and I take the p.m. dose at 9:30. This is getting very old. The pill also makes me feel sort of sick because I'm taking it on an empty stomach. Someone on here posted that maybe the florinef was treating some other condition (like MCAD) and that is why I'm so sensitive to it. I do have bad allergies and asthma. When I took allergy shots about 5 years ago, I was hypersensitive to the shots. They had to dilute the solution to 1/100,000 strength and I was still having huge wheals of reaction 2-3 inches across. My allergist said. "I don't understand how you could be having any reaction. This is like I'm giving you water." I am also very sensitive to meds especially antibiotics. I can only take a very few. My heart will race, adrenaline rushes, short of breath. I had a bad case of hives 2 days after I finished a 10 day course of pennicillin. Those are the only hives I've had. I do flush if I get very nervous or excited, but this doesn't happen often. Can anyone throw any ideas my way? I'd welcome your thoughts.
  11. I cut my Florinef in half. I take half in the a.m. It is sometimes hard to get the pieces even. I've tried a pill cutter, but am using a straight razor (like a razor scraper). What do you all use to cut pills?
  12. Just thought I'd add a different thought. I always have problems with tachy. after meals, but recently I had a period of about a week that after I would eat my heart would add (PVC's) a LOT of beats (many per minute). It was always after I would eat. After about a week it stopped. I think maybe I had a virus.
  13. What a horrific experience! You are in my prayers. Hope your recovery is very fast.
  14. I made sure they gave me plenty of IV fluids during labor. I think that's very important.
  15. I can sympathize with you. Every time I go to doctor or dentist, I get myself worked up into such a state that my heart is racing and pounding out of me and my blood pressure goes up. Then the dr. says, "Is your heart rate always this high? How do you function?" and I say, "No, it will come down as soon as I walk out this door." It is so aggravating because I can try to reason with myself and calm myself down but the powerful combination of my anxiety and the adrenaline surges from POTS make me totally miserable. Distraction seems to help some. The last time I went to the dr. I took my son's MP3 play with my favorite movie downloaded on it. That helped some.
  16. This is a crazy thing to describe, but when I'm standing for long periods of time, I will shift my weight to one leg (hip). I wouldn't have noticed this but my right hip joint is now hurting and bothering me a lot because I'm constantly putting all my weight on it. So now I find myself trying to shift my weight to the left side which doesn't help POTS symptoms as well. I guess shifting weight may help with POTS symptoms, but what is the deal with one side working better than the other? Weird.
  17. I live in southern Ohio. I am 42 and starting to go through some weird things with my cycles and hormones too. I have three boys (12, 10, and 8). I would be glad to be a phone friend. I can definitely relate to feeling lonely and feeling like no one understands. I just made that comment to my husband the other day. I will PM you too.
  18. Thanks so much for answering me. I am sorry you had such a terrible time going through menopause. I will admit I have worried for some time now about how it will effect my POTS. I'm not sure if that is what is starting with me or not. It actually just occured to me today that this might be what is going on. I have been experiencing the hot flashes (flushing), differences in my monthly cycles (starting at different times and days of spotting before I actually start), palpitations, PVC's , and adrenaline surges for a few months now (off and on). One thing that has really changed during the last year is that the week before my period I sometimes feel like I'm on speed. I will rush around trying to get a lot accomplished and I feel really high-strung and talk everyone's ear off. I feel like my heart is racing during those times but when I check it, it really isn't. I hate that feeling! The latest are these PVC's which tend to be acting up a LOT more than usual (especially after I eat for some reason). I am certainly not looking forward to heading into this full force if the last few weeks have been any indication of what is to come. Where do you get your hormone patch? Is it a prescription?
  19. I am 42 and over the last few weeks have been experiencing more problems with fast heart rate, added beats (PVC's), and flushing after feeling hot with an adrenaline kind of surge. I also wake up at night with my heart racing and pounding out of me. I have called my cardiologist about it and am waiting for him to return my call. I had a blood potassium test a couple of days ago which came back normal. My question is this: If you have gone through perimenopause, what were your symptoms? Thanks!
  20. I am having a horrible time with PVC's (multiple times per minute) and fast heart rate, adrenaline rushes, and flushing. This flushing so often is new to me. I feel horrible. It has been going on for a few weeks off and on. Could it be MCAD (hope I spelled it right)?
  21. If I've had a stressful day I get the sweats and waking up with my heart racing at night. Also, during my PMS week I get this worse.
  22. I tried Zoloft too and felt horrible on it.
  23. Thankful, That is exactly what I do when I am having a bad day. I just "mouth" the words at church when I sing. My husband knows I'm doing it, but no one else does. I always feel like a fraud (ha ha) but at least I can stand up with everyone else.
  24. Thanks for your reply. It helps to know I'm not alone.
  25. The last few days I have been having lots of PVC's after I eat ( 2 per minute max) that last for a couple of hours. I assume this is while the food is digesting. I had wondered if the Florinef has caused my potassium to be low, although I've been on it for 3 years and never had that problem before. The other possibility is a virus. My stomach has been upset some and last night I felt like I was chilling but had no fever. My temp. was low actually. Would nausea cause PVC's? Today I am not eating and I have had very few PVC's.
