  1. Bleach or other chemical cleaners make me tachy and dizzy. I am going the "green" route too or getting my mom to come over and clean the showers ( which makes me feel like a heel).
  2. I had to answer this post. Several years ago (before I had POTS) I had excruciating pain and went to the ER. They did all sorts of tests but couldn't find out what was wrong with me. They finally decided it was "female problems", gave me pain medication and sent me home. Over the next 5 months I was in and out of the hospital with pain and a mystery illness that caused fever and a low blood count. I had many rounds of IV antibiotics. I went to many dr.s and none could figure it out. My heart began to race and I was in the hospital many times for a racing heart but they couldn't find anything wrong with my heart. Finally, I went to a gynocologist who said I had a large ovarian cyst and I had surgery to have it removed. Well, guess what they found when they cut me open? I had a gangreene, abcessed appendix that I had been carrying around for months. I believe if I hadn't had the IV antibiotics to help "seal off" the appendix I would not be here. I thought my heart would go back to normal after the surgery, but the rest, as they say, is history. I've had POTS ever since. The doctors won't admit it but I know that is what triggered my POTS.
  3. This happens to me often when I try to take a drink in the middle of the night. It's not so much a problem during the day.
  4. My husband and I pulled our 3 boys our of school last Mon. There was no H1N1 in our small private school yet, but it just hit our county. I am homeschooling all three of them (what an adventure!) One of my sons has asthma and I have it too. I don't tolerate asthma meds except inhaled steroids and don't tolerate most antibiotics. We decided this was the safest route for now. We do plan on getting the shot when it becomes available. After it kicks in, the boys will probably return to school. Our youngest is 7. I think he will need to get two shots several weeks apart. I heard that if the child is under ten they will need two shots.
  5. You can add me to the list too. When I took cipro for a UTI I thought I was dying. My heart was racing and pounding wildly, I was shaking all over from the adrenaline, and my chest felt tight and hurt. Unfortunately, I can't take very many antibiotics either. I seem to be allergic to Penn., and many others make my heart race and make me wheeze ( I have asthma).
  6. The last time I had my eyes dialated I had some trouble with my heart rate picking up for a while. It settled down in under an hour. Now I am not looking forward to having it done again.
  7. I'm not on klonopin, but I have noticed my hair is getting thinner. I lose a lot of hair every time I wash it. I thought maybe it was the florinef.
  8. This happens to me after almost every meal, but especially one with a lot of carbs. My symptoms are a fast pounding heart, weakness, and extreme exercise intolerance. After the food digests, it goes away. This can take up to 2 hours. I go lay down for a while if the symptoms are unbearable. This helps.
  9. Yes, I was on accolate once several years ago, but when I changed doctors the new one doesn't want me on it because of my other meds. She said it could damage my liver (?????) I wish I could still take accolate.
  10. I definitely have asthma, unfortunately. I take a steroid inhaler and steroid nasal spray for my asthma and allergies. When I get a cold I have to increase the steroid dosage. I tried Singulair, but woke that night with my heart racing and pounding until I thought I would die. I really wish I could take it, because even though my heart was racing, my breathing was much improved! Maggie, I will check into this testing you mentioned. I really hope I can get this done. Every time I try a new med I feel like a guinea pig waiting to see how bad it will make me feel.
  11. I seem to be getting more and more sensitive to medications which is becoming quite a problem. When I am sensitive to a medicine I can have a racing heart, adrenaline rushes, sleeplessness, wheezing, and/or chest pain and discomfort. After I discontinue the medication, the symptoms go away. I have had this problem with Singulair, Ciprofloxacin, Vantin, Macrobid, albuterol, and now Bactrim. This makes treating my asthma and now this urinary tract infection, very difficult. I really need some of these medications and my fear is that I will end up really needing a medicine, not be able to take it, then be in a real mess. Do any of the rest of you have such an extreme sensitivity to medications and what do you do about it?
  12. I know what you mean about the skipped beats. I seems like just when I'm getting to the "best part" my heart gets going so fast then it skips beats which scares me. I also have a problem with my heart rate staying up after it's all over so, ideally, I like to do it in the a.m.
  13. I have this every day. It is worst in the morning. For breakfast I eat the high protein, low carb Special K or an egg. Anything that is high protein and low carb works best. By evening I can handle a bigger meal with more carbs, but I still have to be careful. Sugar always makes it worse.
  14. I get this way during my premenstrual week. I have told my mom that I feel like I have ADHD and cannot concentrate to read anything. I feel completely wired all the time. I developed this after having POTS for several years. I can always tell right after my period starts that I feel calm and normal again.
  15. You are in my prayers. I've been through that trembling and racing heart thing too. It is awful!! Steroids (especially when I'm going off of them ) do that to me.
  16. I'm having this problem today. I have recently noticed that it seems to often occur close to time for my period. I took my son to a pediatric urologist for urination urge problems and the dr. said the triggers for bladder irritation are: the 4 C's Carbonation Caffeine (tea, coffee, & cola) Chocolate (candy, cookies, and chocolate milk) Citrus (orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, pineapple, & tomato) Good drinks that don't irritatate are: water, apple juice, white grape juice, raspberry juice, sports drinks, crystal lite, Kool-Aid, powdered lemonade mix, Hawaiian Punch, and Juicy Juice. I copied this off the paper they gave us.
  17. I know exactly what you mean. I have asthma along with POTS and when I get a cold or flu I go down hill really fast. Fevers just completely lay me low too. It's amazing how fast I can go from feeling "normal" for me to feeling like I'm dying. I will say a prayer for you to feel much better soon. It won't last forever, but I know it feels soo bad now. By the way, I'm from southwestern Ohio too. My cardiologist is in Cincinnati.
  18. I have had these before too. I'm not on antidepressants, only florinef and allergy/asthma meds. I don't have them all the time, sometimes if I'm really tired or sick.
  19. That is so strange! My headaches are always on the back left at the base of my skull too. They start there then the pain can shoot through my head and over my left eye. If I let it go too long with no painkillers I can get nauseous.
  20. I took Mircette for several years. I actually felt better on them. They reduced the POTS flare ups that occured with p.m.s.
  21. This happens to me when I drink sometimes. I feel like I'm smothering and can't breathe.
  22. I am supposed to go have my eyes dialated as part of a regular eye exam. I haven't had that done in years (maybe even before POTS). I was wondering if the medicine used to dialate my eyes could cause any POTS flare ups? I am extremely sensitive to many medications.
  23. I also can't tolerate caffeine. This includes decaf coffee. Isn't there another stimulant-type ingredient in coffee besides caffeine? I think chocolate and tea have it too. Does it start with "th"? Sorry I can't remember it.
  24. Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It is sometimes worst at night when I first lay down. I wonder what can help?
