  1. I have had allergies my whole life (seasonal and dust), but since I developed POTS they have gotten progressively worse and worse. I don't know if there is a connection or not. I have developed a severe reaction to peanuts since April. I have severe tachycardia and a swollen throat feeling and nausea during the two times I have eaten something with a peanut ingredient. I also have severe medication intolerance. I think I might have MCAD but have not been tested. When I miss a Florinef pill or am late taking it or don't take it on an empty stomach (it gets in my system later that way), I have symptoms similar to those listed above like the peanut reaction feelings. Maybe the Florinef is controlling any MCAD disorder reactions? I wonder if POTS could be a symptom of MCAD in some people?
  2. I don't know if this is relevant, but my problems with dysautonomia started after I carried a gangreene, abcessed appendix around for several months. It went misdiagnosed becaused the doctors thought it was a female problem. They actually went in for surgery to remove an overian cyst and while they were in there, discovered the bad appendix.
  3. I tried Zoloft for POTS and I didn't faint, but I felt like I could many times. I was dizzy, heart just flying, very weak, extreme orthostatic intolerance. I ended up in the ER with a heartrate of 160. After IV fluids they sent me home. I stopped taking the Zoloft and went back to normal (or what "normal" is for me anyway).
  4. Wow! I didn't know that. I don't know which is worse the shot or the flu, but I guess with my asthma the flu would be worse.
  5. O.K., I know we did this topic to death last year, but I got my flu shot yesterday and starting about 11:00 last night I have felt bad. My heart rate is up some (haven't officially checked it but I can just tell), I'm kind of queasy, and my chest feels tight like my asthma is flared. Has anyone else felt bad after a flu shot this year?
  6. I have asthma and can't tolerate Albuterol and Singulair. They both make my heart race and pound. I have an appt. to see my allergist tomorrow and I would like to see what meds that all of you can tolerate. I am on a steroid inhaler (Pulmicort)and Rhinocort nasal spray. When I get a cold (like now) these meds just aren't enough.
  7. I have been having a lot of issues with numbing shots too. I get the kind without epinephrine but it still makes my heart race. Usually about 3 or 4 minutes after the injection my heart rate starts flying and I get the urge to get up and move around (it's hard to sit still when your heart is racing). Then about 10-15 minutes after the injection my heart rate comes down some. I think the kind of med I get is mepevicaine (sp?). It doesn't numb as well or as long. I had it with a root canal and I needed a second shot of it before he could finish the procedure. One thing that helps me some is a dose of Benadryl. It doesn't really help my heart no to race, but it relaxes me some.
  8. The Equate benadryl lists high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient. I don't know if I have any blood sugar issues. Sometimes I do get to feeling weak and nauseous and a snack helps. Mack's Mom, I noticed in one of your old posts you mentioned one of your MCAD symptoms is trouble swallowing. Is that something that comes and goes? I have had a swollen feeling and sometimes even achy feel in my throat. It seems to be low around my esophagus. It has lasted for a couple months. I wondered if it was thrush from my steroid inhaler (Pulmicort). I've had what I thought was thrush in my throat before and took Nystatin or Diflucan for it. It would go away then come back months later. Now I can't tolerate the meds to cure it and I'm wondering if it is thrush at all or something different. It has not gone away in months, but I do have days where it is milder. The other night after I took the Benadryl I could imagine the swollen feeling was a little better, but not gone.
  9. Actually, it was liquid Benadryl that I took (2 teas.). I didn't know it would kick in in 6 minutes.
  10. I think I just posted about a very similar feeling : )
  11. I have seen many of you post about waking up in the middle of the night with your heart racing and pounding. I do that too but now I will occasionally (once a month?) have a similar episode during the daytime. It starts off with this uneasy feeling, like I can't concentrate and feel nervous (the preadrenaline rush feeling). Then my heart starts racing and I feel horrible. I first thought these were some sort of allergic reaction, but they have occured with no rhyme or reason. It lasts about 10-15 minutes then subsides. Last night I took a Benadryl to see if that helped, but only 6 minutes after I took it I started to feel better, so the med couldn't have kicked in yet. This has happened before. Wish I knew what was up.
  12. I know exactly what you're talking about. I am going through this right now. I think mine is hormone related. It usually happens the week before my period.
  13. For me it is worse at certain times of the month (like the week before my period). It is best right around ovulation. Also, the best time of the day for me is in the morning. That way if I'm feeling tachy, I just get up and do some light housework as a distraction. If I do it right before bed, my heartrate goes up and I can't go to sleep for about an hour (too much adrenaline)
  14. I have just what you described. It's especially bad if I'm tired or stressed.
  15. I take Florinef every day. My dr. prescribed Diflucan for thrush in my throat (caused by my steroid inhaler). When I tried to take the Diflucan, my heart kept getting these electrical shock feelings in it all day and night, then my heart would race. I was also weak in my muscles with lots of muscle twitches. I found one medicine website that said you should not mix Florinef with an azole antifungal, which is what Diflucan is. It mentioned it could effect your heart rhythm. No other sites mentioned the interaction. I have taken Diflucan before with no problem. I wonder if there really is an negative drug interaction between the two. Have any of you had any problems? I also tried Nystatin yesterday which made me short of breath and my chest tight. Do any of you know of any more antifungals to try?
  16. This happened to me a few days ago when I started the antibiotic Zithromax. I skipped a night taking it and had no zaps. Then I took another a few nights later and the zaps were back. I also get the brain zaps at night if I have had a super stressful day.
  17. Yes, I've had that feeling many times. It goes away after I have been upright for a while. When it is really bad is if I have been laying down then jump up fast then lay back down.
  18. Have any of you tried this? I was talked into buying some today for a case of thrush in my throat. I am nervous to try it due to my sensitivities to meds.
  19. I felt really bad after eating potatoes fried in peanut oil. My heart raced and I felt bad all over. My allergist told me it was highly unlikely I had a reaction to the peanut oil because it is refined and the proteins and removed. Anybody heard of this?
  20. What is slowed motility? Does that mean your digestive system is working too slowly to digest and process food?
  21. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to roll over and feel a big wave of nausea. It goes away after a few minutes. Anyone else experience this? Wonder what causes it?
  22. Thank you so much for replying. I was beginning to think I was alone in this. It happened a few other times, but this really scared me. I thought maybe it was the blood circulating really fast or something. Who knows?
  23. Ok, wonderful way to wake up this morning. I've been feeling bad the last several days (virus probably). Waking up with a racing heart isn't new to me, but this morning I had another sensation with it. When I woke up I noticed a hot burning feeling across my chest. I thought, "Is my heart racing?" and it was, just softly racing instead of the pounding racing it usually does. It continued for probably 5-10 minutes, but the longer it lasted, the more forceful the beats became. Finally, it was pounding and racing but the burning went away. Then the tachy went away. Anyone else experience this?
  24. I'm going through this right now. Usually, I will start off with worse than usual tachycardia for a day or two and wonder, "What is going on?" Then, I will suddenly get sick (usually a virus of some sort). It's like my body starts responding with tachy as soon as the little viruses enter it, then the sickness shows up later.
