  1. My doctor didn't really explain it any more than I mentioned above. Caranara, did your dr. explain what was wrong with the blood flow to your heart while lying down that caused the sweating?
  2. I went to see my cardiologist yesterday and mentioned that I frequently wake up sweating at night. He said it is an autonomic nervous system thing and it is due to POTS ( that's not the way he explained it, but I forget his exact words). He said it is sort of like the startle reflex or something. Does anyone else have this?
  3. I just had to add that I am the same. My son's basketball games, going to the dr. when I'm nervous, watching an exciting movie, reading an exciting book, playing a video game, getting upset , being in a stressful social situation.... all these and more make my heart race.
  4. I just said a prayer for you. I know how difficult this can be. Sometimes I feel like no one around me understands. I pray God will uplift you and help you through this depression.
  5. Thank you, Sara. I will ask about those. Jenny
  6. I think I posted this a long time ago, but there are some new folks around now. I have asthma and cannot tolerate Singulair and Albuterol. Both make my heart race. Right now I'm on Pulmicort steroid inhaler. I take one puff in the morning and 2 at night. If I have a cold I have to take more. I'm going to see my allergist tomorrow and I thought I'd see what other people with POTS can take.
  7. I have a dr. appt. in Aug. I hope he can figure out what is causing this. I get very frustrated with dr.'s ignorance and with them looking at me in disbelief like I'm crazy.
  8. For several years I have had the symptom of being awakened in the middle of the night with my heart pounding out of me (like from an adrenaline rush). It would do this for a few minutes then settle down. I have read about a lot of you having this. Recently, I will sometimes wake up (during night or in morning), lay there for a few minutes, THEN start to feel bad and wonder what in the world is going on, then the rush comes and my heart races and I feel kind of nauseous (same kind of feel I used to have as described above. It also only lasts a few minutes. This is before I get out of bed. I'm wondering if this is POTS too or is it some new thing going on with my heart. It always just freaks me out when some new symptom starts, so I'm wondering if anyone else has this. By the way, I've told my dr. about the middle of the night rushes that I and many of you have and he just looks like he doesn't know what I'm talking about. This from a dr. who is supposed to know about POTS.
  9. I just said a prayer for you. Hope everything turns out just fine. Keep positive thoughts. Jenny
  10. You and your family are in my prayers. Sometimes it seems like "when it rains it pours " with our problems. I know our God is able to do abundantly above and beyond anything we can imagine. Love Jenny
  11. I go to a cardiologist in Cincinnati named Dr. Edward Schloss. He treats patients who have POTS. His phone number is (513)721-8881. He is with The Ohio Heart & Vascular Center. I've been going to him for 2 years.
  12. I felt exactly like you do before I took my TTT. When I get anxious or nervous my heart rate skyrockets. When I took the test, my heart rate was a little over 100 lying down, but when they stood me up it went to 160.
  13. In response, yes I am usually very sensitive to meds, which is why I'm very scared to try this one. My dr. gave me the prescription with out testing my urine, just on my description of how I felt. I tried to call him back today, but he is not in the office and I have no way of reaching him. All last night and today I have guzzled water and cranberry juice, but tonight I'm running a low grade fever (99.7). I guess I will have to see another dr. if I decide not to try this cipro.
  14. I just came from the doctor with a prescription for Ciprofloxacin for a UTI. On the medication fact sheet it lists as side effects: lightheadedness, dizziness, anxiety, tremors, numbness, tingling, weakness. Then it says to contact your dr. immediately if you develop fast/irregular heartbeat among many other things. Under drug interactions it mentions corticosteroids (is Florinef one?). It says this med can mess up blood sugar. "Tell your dr. medical history especially of heart problems (e.g., slow/fast/irregular heartbeat). When interactions with some meds occur, it can cause QT prolongation. YIKES!!! Would you take this?
  15. My reply is not in regard to Lexapro, but I have started experiencing ringing and buzzing in my ears too. It seems to have started after I started taking Florinef a year and a half ago. I thought there was a connection there but maybe the ringing is a POTS thing. Who knows. Anyone else out there?
  16. I am so glad you posted about this. I started getting this about a year ago. (I've had POTS for 15 years). I thought it might be related to Florinef since I'm on it. I heard Florinef can mess up your blood sugar. I don't get this feeling every day, but pretty often. Like you, it hits me in the morning, usually a couple of hours after I eat breakfast. I get weak, shakey, my heart rate goes up, and I feel kind of nauseous. I assumed it was tied into blood sugar because, like you said, I always feel better after I eat lunch. I had never heard that this feeling could be a symptom of POTS, but then again, I've learned to be surprised at nothing with POTS. New and wierd symptoms seem to always creep up. I'll have to try the fluid loading too and see if it helps.
  17. I didn't know you were supposed to take it with food. I can't do that anyway. I am hypersensitive to Florinef so if I take it even 10 minutes late I start to feel bad. If I don't take Florinef on an empty stomach and it doesn't get into my system at the exact same time each day I have a horrible reaction with my heart racing and pounding and my blood pressure goes up. I found this out after I ate a big meal late one night then took the pill. I felt bad for nearly 24 hours. If I take it on an empty stomach at the same time every day, I'm fine- except for the blood sugar thing. High blood sugar? I figured it was low.
  18. I think I read somewhere that Florinef can cause you to have low blood sugar. I've never had trouble with my blood sugar. I've been on Florinef for about a year and a half. I've noticed that a few hours after breakfast I start to feel shaky, nauseous, and my heart rate goes up and my heart pounds. If I eat something or especially if I drink a small amount of juice, I feel better quickly.
  19. Yes, it happens to me often, especially if I've had a stressful day or I'm sick (ex: virus) it is worse.
  20. Yes, I have this problem too. I suspect it is a similar reaction to what we have when we get overheated from taking a hot shower or going outside on a hot day. It is a heat intolerance issue. About a minute after drinking a cup of hot tea or boullion my heart rate goes up and I feel weak and shakey.
  21. This happens to me on a fairly regular basis. It always freaks me out. I've found that if I have a stressful day I am more likely to have these episodes.
  22. I always have a lot of trouble finding things to eat for breakfast that don't cause my heart rate to go up, especially cereals. Morning seems to be the worst. I found a cereal that doesn't bother me. It's Special K protein plus. It has really low carbs and high protein. I put a little Splenda on it to help the flavor. What breakfast foods agree with you?
  23. I kind of know what you're talking about. I only get on this website during the day. If I get on late in the evening, I get excited/nervous about the stuff I'm reading and get adrenaline circulating so it's hard to settle down to sleep.
  24. I am hypersensitive to Florinef. If I reduce the tablet size by as much as a grain of rice size I am up all night with my heart racing and pounding, nausea, feeling generally horrible. I have also had to start taking Florinef on an empty stomach because if I have food in my stomach and the medicine is delayed getting into my system by even as much as 20 to 30 minutes off schedule, I have the above symptoms for 24 hours or more. I really wish I had Never started taking this drug and would like to discontinue taking it or at least cut it way down. Right now I take 1/2 a tablet in the morning (9:30 a.m. sharp or I feel horrible) and 1 whole tablet at 9:30 p.m. Have any of you reduced your dose or discontinued Florinef? How did you go about it? How long did it take you to cut back? Did you cut back by 1/2 tablet at a time, 1/4 tablet? I wish Florinef came in liquid so it would be easier to control dosage. Any response is greatly appreciated. Jenny P.S. I tried to stop taking it cold turkey in Dec. and I won't even go into that 2 week long nightmare!
  25. It's nice to know I'm not alone (although not nice for you all Usually I feel better if I just avoid the big "O" but then I feel like my husband thinks I'm not into it at all. We talk about it but it is still frustrating.
