  1. I was able to work full time with both of my pregnancies. I actually went into early labor at work with my oldest. Everybody is different though.
  2. We saw Dr. Shoffner for our mito diagnosis for my daughter. I have POTS, but no one in our family has been diagnosed with EDS. Good luck.
  3. I was diagnosed with POTS 9 years ago and have since had 2 children. Both of my pregnancies were normal with no complications. I was never considered high risk. I saw my cardio once or twice during each pregnancy just for follow up visits. If you are concerned, talk with your POTS dr and your obgyn about any questions/concerns you might have.
  4. Hey Jessica! Long time no see! Congrats on the pregnancy! I had a hard time in the first trimester during both of my pregnancies. My dr thought it had something to do with the rapidly changing hormones. I dont really have any advice other than to just try and make it until the 2nd trimester. I took benadryl which actually helped with with the trembling. Keep us updated!
  5. She is only 4 and does not have a dysautonomia diagnosis, but has not been tested. Mito disorders can affect any and all organ systems. Hers affects her muscles and also affects her neurologically. The dr that we saw suggested the muscle biopsy to test. He also took a skin sample from the same area as well as spinal fluid. I am not sure which of the tests lead to the mito diagnosis. I have copies of the test results, but it is like trying to decipher code. We saw Dr. John Shoffner in Atlanta.
  6. My daughter has a diagnosed mitochondrial disorder. The only way to get a definitive diagnose of a mitochondrial disorder is through a live muscle biopsy. Genetic tests can point in the direction of a mitochondrial disorder. Good luck with your testing!
  7. Symptoms: Visual Snow: no Starburst (flashes of white light): no peripheral whitelight flashes: no floaters: YES afterimages: no difficulty focusing under neon lighting YES Worsening of symptoms under neon lighting YES Any other of a myriad of visual disturbances YES-difficulty focusing Questions: 1. Do you seem to pool or have you been told you pool in your hands and feet, stomach or everywhere? not that I know of 2. Do you suffer from cold feet and hands similar to raynauds syndrome? yes 3. Do nurses have trouble finding a vein when trying to needle you? yes 4. Is anxiety or a hyperadrenergic presentation one of your problems with POTS? yes, anxiety 5. are your symptoms worse in the mornings? most of the time 6. Do your symptoms wax and wane or are they constant? wax and wane 7. Was the onset of your POTS abrupt, sudden or mild then sudden? sudden
  8. I would rest and drink lots of fluids for now and then gradually get back into your walking routine.
  9. I took florinef and zoloft with both of my pregnancies with no complications. My cardio felt that the benefits of taking the medicine far outweighed the risks involved.
  10. Have you looked into mitochondrial disorders? I ask because we suspect that my daughter has a mitochondrial disorder which she got from me. My symptoms are dysautonomia, but hers are more neurological. The thing about mito disorders is that they manifest themselves differently, even in the same family. The test is a live muscle biopsy and the results come in a few months instead of years. Just wasn't sure if it is something that you had considered yet.
  11. Congats! I cant wait to see pictures!
  12. Madelyn Kylee was born on 7/17 at 8:53pm. She weighs 8lb 7oz and is 20 inches long. Delivery went very smoothly and we have just been at home resting. I didnt have any POTS related issues during labor.
  13. My mom has had the same problem with her antacids. The ins company says that the over the counter ones are just as good as the prescription ones. Why would they be prescription only if they were the same thing? My insurance company doesnt cover my brand of prenatal vitamins (ones that dont make me sick) because they say there are cheaper alternatives. Your dr can write a letter asking that the insurance company cover the Allegra for medical reasons, but they dont always get approved.
  14. Congrats on the pregnancy! I am pregnant with baby #2 and am due August 1st. I had my first daughter after I was diagnosed with POTS, but my cardiologist had me stay on the florinef throughout the pregnancy because of the outcomes whe he had tried to wean me off in the past. I have a happy healthy 2 1/2 year old. I went into labor naturally 5 days before my due date. I was in labor for about 7 hours. I didnt have an epidural because I was 9 1/2 cm dialated when we got to the hospital. I had a natural vaginal birth and plan to do the same with this one. I had a very hard time at the beginning of both of my pregnancies because I threw up so much that it was hard to stay hydrated. I must say that it is much harder being pregnant in the summer then it is in the winter (1st was a January baby). It is so hot which makes it hard to breath and I dont want to do much of anything because I am so miserable from the heat. I hope that you are feeling well! The best advice that I can give you is listen to your body and dont be afraid to speak up.
  15. Jacquie, I am so sorry! I'll be thinking of you and your family.
  16. Maxine, I am so sorry for your loss. I is good that your family is there for each other during this time.
  17. My bp is on the low side and I am always hot. If I am cold I know that I must be sick or it is REALLY cold. I have had chills with no fever before and went to the er. The dr said that it was viral even though no fever. I didnt feel good at all at the time, but I dont know if it was a virus or POTs related.
  18. I get light headed, but usually when I stand not sit up. I dont usually get leg sensations unless I am extreemly symptomatic.
  19. My grandmother is 83 and has POTs. She has a lot of health problems, but the drs dont think that any of it is related to low bp.
  20. Maxine, I am so sorry! I hope that they can find a better way to manage her pain and make her more comfortable. I will be thinkng of you and your family.
  21. melissa, I am so glad that you are feeling well enough to post! I hope that things continue to improve!
  22. Melissa, Im glad to hear that you are finally home! I hope you continue to improve!
  23. I just tend to feel a little tired and under the weather and then the next day I wake up with something. I've felt pretty crappy all day today, so I am anticipating waking up with something tomorrow morning. I'm student teaching in a room with 2nd graders (7 and 8 year olds) so in the 4 weeks that I've been there, Ive already had 2 colds one of which turned into a double ear infection and a sinus infection. After I get sick I usually notice the fluttering and flip flopping though.
  24. now if only they could figure out what to do about it.
