DSM3KIDZ
I am usually strong and can deal with alot. Except when my nausea is bad. When I get nauseated I get very agitated and basically can't function except for laying around. I also get real down emotionally during nausea because it feels soooooo awful.I've been dealing with this for 2 years and feel if we could somehow control this (tried EVERYTHING) I could have a better quality of life.Is nausea ruining anyone elses life or am I just a wimp????Ex. my kids will watch tv and do nothing all day because I'm too nauseated to handle anything. ellepee
It's awful!I've tried everything too. I can't go anywhere without a plastic bag since I vomit a lot too- I'm almost at the 2 year mark of dealing with this awful symptom and my dentist even says that I'm ruining my teeth. There are times when other symptoms are more prevalent than the nausea, but then there are times when the nausea seems to overtake me and I feel like I can't move. Nothing seems to work- it keeps me from doing so much since I can barely even tolerate car rides, such an awful symptom! I experience so many symptoms, but the nausea/vomiting and dizziness are by far the worse.
DSM3KIDZ
Elle-Thanks for your reply the vomiting sounds awful. Does the nausea go away after you vomit? Some days I wish I could but am glad that I don't.Does any anti nausea meds work for you?2 years is 2 years toooo long. Here I thought I just had the flu and I would be better in 24/48hrs. Little did I know it was a 730 day flu.Hang in thereDayna
Jacquie802
Hi Dayna,Nausea is tied with my worst symptom, dizziness. I don't throw up and I guess I'm glad I don't but I feel as though I would feel better if I did. Do you take anything for your nausea???? I have tried everything over the counter, and when I went to the hospital they gave me Zofran (I think that's what it was) and it worked!! Of course my insurance won't cover it. My doc gave me Prevacid 30mg to see if that helps with the acid problems I have, which tend to make my nausea worse. I haven't started taking it yet though. I was on Protonix for stomach acid and that didn't even help me in the nausea dept.Anyhow, best of luck to you. If you find something that works, let me know! DSM3KIDZ
Jacquie802I've tried zofran and unfortunately it doesn't help me. Right now I'm tryinf Anzmet it is in the same class as Zofran and it's not helping much either. Phenergan worked really well for me for many months but now for some reason it makes me VERY agitated to the point I turn evil.I tried PPI's and it didn't help so I stopped them. My motility specialties thinks it's more than gastroparesis since I can eat okay. He thinks if I get the autonomic issues under control it will help with the nausea but my neurologist doesn't think that's the case and she's the prescribing dr for pots meds. I need to give her a swift kick in the butt. Thanks for replyingDayna
bttrflyamby1981
I get nausea when my symptoms are at there worse, but I get migraines a lot, so I get nausea and vomiting with that too.I have had the migrianes for over 6 years, and these POTS symptoms for over 3 years.Good luck, I hope you find relief soon!Amber
Jacquie802
Dayna,Just curious if you have tried Reglan? It's got quite a few side effects listed, but I'm just wondering becaues my GI doc wants me to take it.
DSM3KIDZ
yes I have tried Reglan and just when it seemed to start helping my doctor said he didn't want me to use it long term due to the irreversible side effects. So he said I could use it on a as needed basis which isn't to effective that way.I only had alittle bit of muscle twitching with it other than that no side effects.I would give it a try just ask your doctor about the long term use.Dayna

Brwneyedchica
I've had pretty severe nausea on and off (mostly on) for about 8 years now. I've tried Phenergan, compazine and reglan and they did nothing. Zofran is the only drug that works for me, and thankfully my insurance covers it, but I still pay quite a bit for it. Ever since the awful non stop vomiting spells I had in the winter ( I was in the ER several times and am still paying bills for it) I take Zofran whenever I get that really nauseated feeling going on. My GI doc referred me back to the POTS doc and then my Florinef was increased and I felt better for a few weeks. But for awhile now, i've been back to the same feeling sick to my stomach all the time feeling. I go see my specialist on the 19th so we'll see if he has any ideas. I just wanted to let you know that you're NOT a wimp. It's VERY VERY difficult to function when you feel like you're going to vomit. I'd like to see anyone "normal" do all that I do while feeling like i'm going to be sick. I've kinda just learned to ignore it, until it gets to the point that I need a Zofran. I sometimes just try and relax and take deep breaths and not be around any food or strangely enough to not talk until I feel better. This has always been my worst symptom. It's interesting that it effects so many of us with POTS. I hope that everyone suffering with nausea finds something that works. It's an awful thing to deal with ;(
Guest sonotech
Dayna,I know how horrible the nausea can be. Acid reflux can cause it.....have you tried meds for that? Also, if phenergan works for you but causes unpleasant side affects, maybe you could try a smaller dose (just split the pills you have and see) that always helped me.Don't get down on yourself for having to lay around when nauseous....I don't know anyone who CAN do normal activities when nauseous......I think our bodies normal reaction to it is to lay still, so it's kind of hard to fight that.My kids also must spend many days just playing around the house while I lay in bed.....Some things you might try are:WASHABLE paints (in a designated area of course)...my kids love this and is soooo easy to clean that they can even do it themselves with "baby wipes"....heck, I let them find OLD toys around the house to paint and they LOVE IT.Coloring books/watercolor books...anything "new" makes kids think it is a great day for them.Treasure Chest....I have a wicker chest full of "dollar" toys, happy meal toys, etc. I let them pick out a treasure at the end of the day when they "let mom rest" and they think its great and makes them WANT to let you lay down when sick.Movie....pop some popcorn (if it doesn't make you tooo nauseous) and put a movie on in a dark room with lights out and blankets on the floor....they think its something special and gives you about 2hrs of "down time".I know how hard it is to not beat yourself up.....I know you think you aren't being a good mom (been there myself)....but you are doing your best....and as long as your children feel LOVED, that is what they need. So remember that EVERYTIME they make you a "special picture" to boast about it and put it somewhere special and THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING!!!! Roselover
Dayna, your first post could have been words out of my own mouth!!! I HATE (YES I'M YELLING) NAUSEA! It totally shuts me down from life!I've tried all the normal prescription meds you've all mentioned. My insurance finally approved some Zofran after three hospitalizations due to weeks of no food and little fluid intake. But it only helps sometimes. The thing that has been the best for me is Domperidone. So far, it has been my miracle pill for nausea! I still occaisionally get bouts of it but they are not as bad or as long. When one seems to hit, I keep taking my domperidone and switch to liquids for one day and full liquids for another day or two (pudding, creamed soups etc.) Then I'm almost always back to normal in a day or two. Dayna, remember that it's not the activities that your kids will remember and cherish about you. It's the love they can wathc movies all day long and as long as they know that they are loved and important to you they will be well adjusted! Focus your energies on making sure they feel loved and don't worry so much about what you have energy to "do" with them. Sonotech had some great ideas - I love the treasure chest idea!!There's also a med used for nausea in cancer patients that they are testing at Vandy. I'll try to find out why they are including it in their medication trials and get back to you.~Melanie
BEE
Dayna..What is that??? No you are not a wimp..it is the way you feel and what you are dealing with everyday I have weeks of that too and feel like blah..So it is all just part of this stuff. Remember it does stink that the kids hjave to do stuff like that but it is better than you being in the hospital and not being able to be at home with them ...So take it easy on yourself OKAY???
