icesktr189
I hear a lof of people saying they cant tolerate antibiotics on here. When you took them did you have a true allergic reaction, or did it make your POTS symptoms worse?
gertie
I had an allergic reaction. Some of them caused itchy whelps, throat closing, others caused violent coloncramps & I would pass out. Others caused seizures, sometimes I would just faint. I've had so many reactionI can't remember them all. I have no idea what I am going to do when I need an antibiotic again. Very scarey. songcanary
Sulfa drugs give me hives & itching. Tetracycline, Terramycin and Augmentin cause really bad nausea. One of my doctors said 'we're running out of options here!'. No kidding. I dread antibiotics.

iheartcats
I am currently taking Macrobid and it's not causing any additional POTS symptoms. I took another antibiotic a few months back (can't remember the name - something with a 'cilin') and I had a bad bout of diarrhea at the end but I was told that's common whether or not you have POTS. I took that for whooping cough so I had no choice...I just had to fluid load during the diarrhea and eat bland.I had a rash while taking Cipro once so they avoid that and I'll only take it as an absolute necessary. We aren't 100% sure it was the cause, but why chance it.I hope you find something that works. All antibiotics do give me a bit of nausea, but nothing unbearable. potsgirl
I seem to be able to tolerate some antibiotics just fine. Amoxicillin works with my body and doesn't cause my symptoms to flare. Good luck!
icesktr189
Ugh bactrim is out. 30 mins after taking it, I spiked a 102 fever with chills and shaking. I was super dizzy. I didnt take anymore and today I feel a lot better. I have to go back again and ask for something different. Can amoxicillin be used for UTIS? I tolerate that one really well! icesktr189
I just got prescribed macrobid. Is it more mild than bactrim?
songcanary
I don't know, but I was able to tolerate it. And I have soooo many allergies. I hope it works for you!
cgnursegirl
Yes to both questions. I have been in the hospital for dehydration due to antibiotic colitis. Hives and bronchospasm, epipen. I don't know why so many of us with dysautonomia react so strongly to medicine.
