Sue
We have spent the last twenty four hours at the hospital with my neice, Quynn. She was diagnosed with I.T.P, a disease which affects the blood. Usually when you are sick, the virus attaches itself to the platelets and the platelet kills off the virus. In her case her antibodies are attaching themselves to her platelets and killing them. A normal count is 200,000 and hers is at 2500 right now. They transferred her last night by ambulance to a different hospital where she can be treated by specialists. They are now infusing her with healthy platelets hoping her body will accept them and multiply. She is so small and we are scared. Please send up your prayers and good thoughts, we really need them right now. She is such a sweet child, after the doctor came in and talked to us, Quynn asked him what his name was besides doctor. He said his name, and she looked at him with those innocent eyes and said I love you so much for being my friend right now. The doctor sat on the bed and told her she was the best friend he ever met at the hospital and he would make sure she would get special care. she just looked at him and said thank you, but the sandwich they gave her before was really yucky!!! Sweetness....Thank you so much((Hugs))Sue

morgan617
She will be in my prayers for sure. I don't know if it's any comfort, but my neighbor's little boy had the same thing and was on steroids for a bit after his hospitalization and is doing great. No further problems in 3 years. Will pray the same thing happens here! morgan
Sue
thank you so much!! this morning her platelets are up to 20,000, they want to get her up to 100,000 before letting her go home. She is getting a lot of attention. The pediatric wing at this hospital is awesome!! The kids all have private rooms, equipped with everything you could think of.. Including bed for mom or dad. Stocked refrigerated with juices and jello. VCR with a library down the hall with movies for the kids. They even dress up the iv pole, her iv is named Charlie!!! complete with mustache!! Thank you so much again for your thoughts and prayers, they are so appreciated....((Hugs))Sue

Sue
Hi everyone!!Great news!! Quynns bloodcount has gone back to normal!!! She will have to have her blood drawn once a week for 6 months to keep an eye on this. She also has to wear a helmet when leaving the house, as they want to limit any injury to the head at this time. She is still having some small bleeders but we were told they are definately tapering off. but....if any of you have children who have to have their blood drawn or shots, anything of that nature. We bought Quynn a pinwheel and had her blow the pinwheel til the nurse was finished drawing her blood!! Quynn is pretty young for all this and blowing on the pinwheel worked great and kept her mind busy without worrying about what the nurse was doing. We tried to keep her busy the first couple of times and nothing worked. As a matter of fact the nurse was going to buy pinwheels for the hospital and introduce this at their next meeting.. Hey whatever makes things easier for the kids and the nurses.... I may buy myself one for my next visit lolTake care and thanks much for all the prayers and good wishes((Hugs))Sue
