hi guys,

Has anyone got any ideas for how to get rid of really bad vertigo? i keep falling over and it's kind of like pre syncopal, like i can't stop it happening and i feel like i'm blacking out.

i was making my christmas cake with my boyfriend yesterday and i bent down to look i the oven and everything just started spinning and i fell backwards but i couldn't get up everything was going black. So now i have a bruised bum and a sore head where i hit the wall!

I don't know if i have any kind of infection that's started this off, but i can't go on like this, i've had it for about three weeks and it's getting worse. any ideas for how to get rid of it will b really appreciated, i've just started at a training school designed to getsick people back to work and it will be my second week this week, providing i can get there without falling over!

I take Meclizine for it, it doesn't get rid of it, but it makes it so I can function.

I hope you start feeling better. ;)

Hi Becky,

For some people it is sinus/allergy related. Others need a neuro work-up. There are, however, vestibular specialists who can look at many factors. I know people who were tested and treated with very specific exercises to get their systems back in balance.

Since it has gone on so long, you should have someone try to figure it out.

Good luck. It sounds miserable.

hi, thanks for all the advice, off to the docs tomorrow to see if there is anything wrong with me infection wise - fell over again this afternoon in the bathroom - this is getting a little dangerous now, as most of you will know i'm not a small girl!!

sue - Apparently i'm late making my christmas cake this year, my mm used to have it done at about september!! and apparently my nan would have had the sprouts cooking by now - ha ha!

anyway off to bed for another night of nausea feelinglike i'm on the worst ferry crossing ever.

thanks again, i'll ask my doctor tomorrow if she can refer me to anyone - oh and wish me luck i'm trying to persuade them to take me off florinef and paroxetine.

Hi Becky

I'm glad you're seeing a doctor soon. If he cannot find the reason, or can't help, ask him if it would be ok to see a chiroprator. I have a friend who has 'positional vertigo' About 2-3 times a year she sudden gets really bad attacks of vertigo. (can only crawl on the floor - totally unable to stand without vomiting and passing out) One visit to the chiroprator, and she is good for months until the next attack.

Have no idea if this will help in your case but it may be worth a shot if nothing else works.....

Good luck and keep us posted.

Becky,

Look up bppv on google. I have this problem and have a wonderful physical therapist who does the treatments.

She said people with autonomic problems are very likely to having this. It makes such a difference after the treatment.
