Never Ending Headache

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

For the past few days I have been having really bad headaches. They seem to get worse when I am standing or sittiing ....can bp cause headaches? What can cause them. I never used to get headaches ever, until this whole POTS ordeal. Sorry if I sound crabby... <_<

Hi,

I have never been checked for migraines...How do they check for them? Is it something that comes up on an MRI, because I have had an MRI and it came back normal.

Jacquie--hi!!

I'm sorry that you arent feeling well.. and no I dont think that you sound crabby!!

Um to get checked out for migraines.. go to your pcp or neurologist.. and describe your headaches.. they should be able to determine if you are ahving migraines..

do you have pressure and stuff in the back of your head? that does get worse when you sit or especially when you stand? I call that a potsy headach.. and they can be wicked!! i hate them.. I think it has to do with your BP.. and lack of blood and oxygen to the brain.. maybe you can try loading up with water and salty stuff.. (i mean really load up) and see if that helps you headach..

i hope that you feel better soon dear

take care

hugs

oh yeah.. somebody recently told me to try drinking about 3-4 cups of chicken broth (buillion cubes) and see if it helps w/ potsy headaches...

i havent tried it yet.. but thought that i would throw it out there.. this person told me that sometimes if you are eting pressure and stuff in your head that it may be a sign that you need to pump up on salty/stuff-fluids..

When I'm potsy feeling or have low BP I get headaches that last for days or weeks. It's awful! I know how you feel. Whether they are migraines or not, I don't know. Sometimes a cold pack on the back of my neck works wonders for a while. Sometimes laying down for more than 10 mins. works too. At first it feels worse, but after laying down for a while it starts to subside.

Hugs to you. It will pass. Try the chick broth or salted water and see if that helps.

Yes, I get them too. I have been worked up for migraines....but I dont beleive that dx. The headaches I get are prompted by standing or sitting with my feet down for more than about 2 minutes... And it is pressurey... And they last for 3,4 weeks solid...Migraines cant do that without you needing to be hospitalized or so I was told as a kid. I was put in twice as 'status migrainosis" ( at 9 and 11 years old) which is what they call it when a migraine headache wont end I guess....

Anyway, I know of nothing that helps short of not standing or sitting.... (-; Tylenol does not touch it usually and they can be wicked. Sometimes there will be moments where it feels like swimmers cramp behind an eye or in the back of my head...and then it just goes back to that 'gravity is pulling my brain down / my head is trying to explode/ horrible pressure' feeling.

I have taken my bp a few times when it was really nasty and got numbers like 157/50 or 148/52...

I just started inderal, beta blocker, and so far I do get a headache if I stand to long, espcially if it is close to the time to take my daily pill....but the headaches are laughably smaller! So far...(only been on the med for a few days...)

Good luck.

p.s. I also know that for me heat on the back of my neck is horrible, cold is better.

Good luck..

Status migrainousos is when a migraine has lasted longer than 72 hours with no interruption in pain. It is a dangerous situation requiring medical attention as you are very susecptible to a stroke.

http://headaches.about.com/od/migrainedisease/a/what_status_mx.htm

Migraines that "won't end" or are continuous are termed intractable migraines. It is a type of diagnosis of migraines for people who have ACTUAL MIGRAINES every day, but just vary in intensity. It is a very serious and dangerous diagnosis.

When your blood pressure is higher than 120/80, it is normal to get a headache because your blood vessels are dilating beyond what is appropriate for them. Eventually, at a certain point, you are at a higher risk for a stroke.

You need to see a qualified Neurologist who specializes in Migraines to be properly diagnosed. However, it may be appropriate to be screened by your PCP to see if this is an appropriate step to take. Two places to look for appropriately trained specialists are:

Hope this helps and if you ever have any questions about migraines, please feel free to ask. I have been diagnosed and suffering from them for over 30 years.

In my case I was diagnosed by heads of departments as having migraines and put in the hospital over it...but I really do not think what I have is migraines, not on the every day basis anyway. As far as the bp headaches, I am always told 'oh you are probably just nervous'.... Not.

I cant get the daily ones taken seriously at all.

headaches can be really awful and definately make ya crabby! I hope you find something that helps.

I get them too alot. We found out mine are form no enough oxygen. So I use 2 liters of oxygen as needed and it help alot. What my doctor did was we tried it in his office at first, and then is worked os well I now have oxygen now at home. It is nice, so when I get the really bad chest pain, and sob I can use it. It would be worse a short to ask you doctor about it!

I hope the are getting better for you!
