Always hoping
Hello! I finally got the POTS diagnosis and am starting the salt and fluid loading. I've never had a big appetite so I'm not sure I can get the required salt naturally from my foods. I'm planning on purchasing the salt tablets but was curious if there is any side effects to taking them - no desire to add any additional symptoms! Any advice is welcomed. Thank you! Clb75
I tried these at the beginning and for me they caused a lot of stomach bloating and constipation! I had to drink a lot of water to overcome this, then I was so full from fluids that I didn't have much of an appetite when it was time to eat. One thing that's helped me is to add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to Gatorade ( you can't taste the added salt) which is about 250mg less than a salt tablet. Always hoping
Thank you Clb75. Many of my symptoms are stomach related, so the last thing I want to do is add anything that would increase them. I will absolutely try adding the salt to my Gatorade. Becia
Yeah, they had me nauseous and vomiting like crazy. The first time I tried them, I thought I already had some sort of virus, but the second time, it was the same effect and feelings, so I tossed mine. MightyMouse
stomach pain, nausea, water retention/bloating/swelling are all possible side effects
corina
Hi Always hoping, welcome to the forum! I started salt tablets just last week and for me they seem to work quite well as in that I now mostly sleep through the night with just one bathroom stop! Before the tablets I had a crazy pattern of falling asleep, waking up within 2 or 3 minutes to use the bathroom not sleeping for about 20 minutes then falling asleep, waking up within 2 or 3 minutes to use the bathroom etc. This repeated itself for 4 to 5 times then I would fall asleep for a few hours to wake up and, yes you guessed it, go use the bathroom again. I'm building up to 3 1g tablets per day. I use a stomach protector which may be why I don't experience much side effects if at all. So far I don't notice bp climbing (which I had hoped for) but sleeping through the nights with just one waking up moment is a really welcoming effect and makes it worthwhile for me to continue taking the tablets! Hope this helps!
gertie
I thought salt was bad for the kidneys. I think if you have kidney disease you would have to limit salt intake. I know for a fact it's bad if you have Meniere's disease because it can cause vertigo.
