shadesofgrey49
I was going through some old topics and found one about feeling sicker at home. I often feel like this at my parents' house and wonder if it has something to do with my parents and brother being smokers. Does secondhand smoke aggravate anyone's symptoms? delphicdragon
Went to the casino today (lost $7.50) and there were a lot of people smoking there. My symptoms were ten times worse. I was dizzy, nauseous and visibly shaking (something I almost never do). I was only there a couple hours, but even now the shakiness hasn't left my gut. I've had asthma attacks triggered by cigars, so maybe this is a me thing- but I really think secondhand smoke makes things a ton worse autonomically speaking.Note, I have never smoked and grew up in a smoke free household. I may just be super sensitive.Sara
prettyinpink
Alot of us with dysautonomia are very sensitive to things like heat, crowds, loud noise, etc so it makes sense that your nose is sensitive too. second hand smoke makes my symptoms worse. potsgirl
I used to smoke, quit 17 years ago, and second-hand smoke definitely makes my symptoms a lot worse! In fact, I have to leave immediately because I get so dizzy/nauseated/etc. Yuck.Jana
Mrs. Burschman
I've never been able to tolerate cigarette smoke. Instantaneous headache, dizzy, nauseated. Bleah. I usually can't tolerate perfume, either. Or noise. It's like my body is just way too sensitive to a ton of stuff.Amy
gertie
Don't want to offend anyone & I used to smoke, but there's nothing more obnoxious or sickening than a house where someone smokes. I can't tolerate anyone that smokes coming into my home. I can smell them before they get in the door. My DH bought a car once, preowned by a smoker, I could never ride in it. No matter what it was cleaned with the odor remained.
potsgirl
Amy, I'm exactly the same way. Noises, lights, smells, too many people....I can't wear any perfume anymore or tolerate it on others.
KristinL
I agree with everyone ever since I was dx with POTS 3 years ago I am hypersensitive to smells, noise, light, etc.I have our tv on closed captioning most of the time because our TV is too loud sometimes ---even on the lowest sound setting. mvdula
I'm a smoker - I sometimes smoke when having a bad spell - it does help me - not sure if physically (maybe raises bp?) or just mentally lowers my stress level. Not saying it's a good thing....but has helped me in stressful times - it is also anti-nausea for me.
