  1. You should come to Dublin as its always nice and cold here! I was in Turkey last year for a week in 45 degree heat and i found ice packs fantastic. Simply wrap some ice in cloth and place it on the following points: The back of the neck The wrists Behind your knees. I found if i did this before i went out in the heat it kept symptoms at bay. Obviously that was only for a week and the temps in Ireland in the summer would very rarely raise above 20. Good luck
  2. HI Dawn, My ankles swell if i am wearing anything around them ie. ankle boots or socks that are a bit tight. They are always a little swollen at the end of a day. My legs are always a purple/blue colour and feel cold and I often wake up with numbness or pins and needles in the soles of my feet. I tried wearing hose but found them too uncomfortable and of little benefit. Good Luck !
  3. Greetings all from a cold wet Dublin (still!), While reading a lot of topics and personal stories I keep hearing people talking about major lifestyle changes and how they have helped with POTS. Can anyone offer me tips on exactly what type of changes these are. Apart from keeping well hydrated and taking it easy, avoiding long ques etc. What else can POTS patients do to improve their quality of life. Has anyone ever had diet advice? Do any of you ever have an occassional alcoholic drink ? (Christmas, Birthdays etc?) Any advice for making it through a 4.5 hour flight? How do I avoid putting on the pounds with all this salt ? Is the pill safe for a POTS lady of 36 to do away with that horrible week when I am floored ? SORRY, i know this is a lot of questions at once but am anxious to try reach that level of having a "normal life" again. At present I suffer symptoms on a daily basis. Of course having three children under 7 doesn't lend it self to taking it easy ! Cheers
  4. I would like to donate. Whats the best way from Ireland?
  5. Mine is generally around 90/50 when i am feeling reasonable. On a bad day, like today it is reading 52/28. Struggling today! I have heard beta blockers lower your bp. But i have to take them to slow down the heart rate. Can't win eh?
  6. HI Nina, I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I went through it myself about 10 years ago. It was the hardest time of my life. My advice to you would be spend as much time with him as possible (if your life and location allows). I did this with my mother and was so glad I did. Listen to what he has to say. He may have things he needs to say. My mother did. Sadly my mother passed away three days after our wedding. But there are lots of people out there who survive. Please feel free to contact me anytime. My very good wishes, thoughts and prayers and with you and your family.
  7. When I crash just before a period my bp has dropped to as low as 47/23 ! my norm is never higher than 90/50. No wonder I am so tired eh! Hope your feeling better soon. x
  8. I am also on Lexepro. Have been for last two months. I have had a significant improvement in my symptoms since starting it. I suffered really bad nausea also but this did go after a week or so. The good thing about SSRI's is that even if they don't improve your symtoms they make you happier about having them!
  9. I try to do a "little Job" every day to stop it from building up. You know how you can't face having to vacum a whole house ? I just do one room a day. Ironing is the killer !
  10. You poor thing. At least you know it should only last a few days. The week before mine are due to arrive I suffer really bad. BP drops as low as 46/23. These are the days when I find myself wishing for the menopause. Hang in there !
  11. Hello all, Greetings from a very wet and miserable Dublin (nothing new there!). As I am new to Dinet I just wanted to introduce myself. 36 year old mother of three aged 5,6 and 7. Diagnosed with POTS after TTT in spring of 05. Have been desperate to find another person with it since. Have suggessfully located another lady in Dublin through Dinet (hi aileen) and would love to hear from anyone else who wants to contact me. Throughout this last year my experience of POTS has been an incredibly lonlely one. Having finally found this site I now feel surrounded by friends. My very good wishes to you all. P.S. Please send some sunshine across the water!
  12. Poor you. just as we have enough to deal with confusion is trown in ! i have really bad tremours on that med and was subsequently taken off it. Good Luck and remember when your feeling low that every day you put your foot to the floor is a good day !
  13. Poor You! I am also due to have surgery later this year and I am terrified of the effects having a general will have on me. I am having extensive surgery so doc is insisting on putting me asleep for it. PLEASE let us know how you get on and the very best of luck to you.
