Starting a new blood pressure med(hyper pots)

So I take coreg 25mg twice a day. My autonomic specialist quit recently so I got this new medication listed below from my primary care doctor. The reason being is my top blood pressure number is always high even if my bottom number is very good. Whenever I stand up, my bottom number does get too high as well eventually however.

Anyways, the medication is called amlodipine besylate 2.5 MG.  My primary care doctor claims this medication is good at helping lower the top number.

I have to go out today so I'm going to try it tomorrow for the first time. I would rather be at home and see how my body reacts to it. I was curious if anyone else was prescribed this medication. Why was it prescribed? How did your body react? Does it really target the top number?

I was put on Amlodipine back in October for blood pressures that had gotten out of hand (worst was 198/120). I was started 5 mg and then increased to 7.5 mg. I can say it has been very effective and, at least for me have tolerated fairly well.

@Derek1987 - I too took Amlodipine for a while ( 5 mg ), and it did help. It helps to dilate blood vessels. In the end what helped me more was Diltiazem - also a calcium channel blocker. As you can see - we all react differently to meds, so the only way to find out of it is the right drug for you is to try it! Good Luck - be brave!

This is the reason my cardiologist has me continuing Propranolol along with Ivabradine. The latter has been better for my palpitations, but the former helps with high blood pressure. She's hesitant to put me on any additional BP medication because I'm already dealing with severe muscle aches and exhaustion.
