brethor9
Hi all!So I have been having a really hellish week and have been mostly in bed because of it. Just for a quick update a little over a month ago I was started on Florinef 1/4 tab daily and the beta blocker bisprolol 1/4 tab daily. So here is the thing I have been having some really nasty side effects and cant exactly figure out which is causing which but I have definately narrowed down the beta blocker to causing incredible fatigue (I literally cannot move from the couch when I take it and it makes me incredibly ****** and down in the dumps even at a low dose like that) At first I thought it was the florinef but after stopping the beta the weird head heaviness, fatigue and down feeling stopped. Problem is the beta blocker was helping with the chronic chest pain and huge amounts of adrenaline my body produces.I am beta hypersensitive...does anyone know of a milder beta blocker I can try? Of course I cannot speak with my specialist as he is away for a month (sort of frustrating being started on new meds and then your dr disappears for a month! But whole other issue)so I cant get any guidance from him. So any input from you guys would be much appreciated!!ThanksBren
RockiesGirl
I was 1st put on Toprol but my hands were turning blue and serious other side affects. My Doc switched me to Bystolic @ 5 mg/ per day. It seems to work a lot better for me ;o) Less side affects, hope this helps!!
Latacia
I was on Toprol XL and I had an allergic reaction to it. Then my doctor but me on Bystolic and I had bad side effects with that one. My body is super sensitive when it comes to meds and so the doc is trying me on something different it is Diltiazem. It's a calcium-channel blocker. This is what is says on my paper from the pharmacy. "It works by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard. It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart." My bp is always a little high though and the only time it will drop is when I am standing on my feet for a period of time. This med helps lower my bp so if your bp is already low then this med is not for you. I have been taking this med for for 4days now and so far so good. Hope this helped some. wareagle
I've never used Beta Blockers, but I do take Clonodine to relax my sympathetic nervous system. It has helped stop my surges. I only take a small dose @ night & haven't had bad effects. I've been taking it over 5 years now.It may be worth checking into. I would recommend starting low as it can also cause drowsiness. It's on DINET's main web page if you want more information.Good luck, and keep us posted!
kluesyk
Conidine has been the only thing I have tolerated also...very bad reactions to all beta blockers.I only take 1/2 a pill in the am and do ok with hr and bp.
dizzyalmom
Hi Bren, I just joined, after being diagnosed with POTS in April. I take 1/4 Zebeta, or generic, which is what you have been taking I believe. I was incredibly tired and just felt bad the first 2 weeks on the beta blocker, but I called my doctor (Dr. Phillips in Birmingham, AL) and was told to drink tons of water and that I would get over that tired feeling as well as the feeling of being even dizziner. I stuck it out and do feel better. I also tak 1/2 of 5. mg of Klonopin at night, and the combination has greatly improved my symptoms, though it will worsen with PMS. I, like alot of people here, seem to be sensative to meds, and had even asked my OB/GYN nurse about Zebeta, she said it is a very mild beta blocker, so that made me feel better about it. I have not stopped my dizziness altogehter, but it's so much better that most days I do not even notice it. I do have only a milde case of POTS but it has made me feel really flu-like in the past and generally sick. Now I finally know that all the symptoms I had belong to POTS, but my worst symptom has always been the wierd dizziness. Hope that helps. I am new at this so I know nothing about any other meds just the ones I take and I pray they continue to work.
yogini
I used to take atenolol 1/4 or 1/8. Now I use bystolic. both are mild.

Troy
I am extremely sensitive to meds, I couldn't tolerate Clonodine or Toprol (Metoprolol Succinate) but then I found the one...its so subtle, it only does what it needs to do without any other side effects...behold the glorious.....METOPROLOL TARTRATEBrand names Lopressor or BetalockI've been on it for 10 years and I'm yet to see any side effects from it, I truely believe it is one of the most gentle and well tolerated betablockers out there, all it does for me is stop the postural induced tachycardia and nothing more or less than that. cmreber
Like Endure, I too am on the Metoprolol Tartrate and it has been a life-saver! I couldn't even take a shower before I was on it and now I have a somewhat normal (ish) life back! It really helps with the Tachycardia as well as the severe shifts in blood pressure I was having. The only side effect I get from it is fatigue ( unless that's the POTS-its really hard to tell!) But I can live with that compared to how things were! Hope you find something that works for you and start feeling better!
