Lost Coping Skills

Recommended Posts

hello all,

apologies in advance...please forgive my self pitying rant....

no one in my life can relate to what is happening...

the past few days have been particularly difficult for me... nothing extraordinary transpired, but i simply could not bear

feeling lightheaded, weak, anxious, foggy brained, apathetic and.... you all know the litany....

today i was wearing my polar monitor (a daily habit now) while measuring my BP--- i felt 'more odd than usual'...

seated polar read 177 BPM-- then rapidly fell to 50's (i usually experience rapid onset and offset tachy)

blood pressure plummeted: final reading 66/42 HR 57.... it all happened quickly... i was left spent and dazed...

i am not clear about the sequence: tachy followed by drop in BP???... or did the low BP trigger the tachy???

NOTE: normally when i am hypotensive my HR does not rise significantly. i do not understand the

mechanism... knowledge is power and i want to understand... in part to lessen my fear and also to be able

articulate what occurs...

we headed off to the clinic...normal EKG...they drew blood (results tomorrow)

what do you want us to do? they asked... do you want IV fluids? what about potassium....

everyone was well meaning-- truly... but i was well past being civil.... turned around and headed home...

with my 'normal EKG' in hand --then i wept...

counting the days until my appointment at the cleveland clinic...

in the meantime, i am trying to gather knowledge and to understand the mechanism of what occurred

today...

with my best,

cordelia

Hi Cordelia,

I'm sorry your body is giving you such a hard time lately. We all know how frustrating it is to want answers, not even a cure... just answers! It seems having answers would at least give meaning to our suffering. Good for you for making it out of the clinic before breaking down. Last time I went to the ER, I burst into tears in front of the discharge nurse. I don't have any answers for you, but it's totally understandable why you feel so horrible with those pulse and BP readings.

I hope the time goes quickly til you get to CC.

Hi Cordella,

I so can relate and feel awful for you. I've had the same day. I feel like I have the strength of a weak kitten and my b/p has been horrid. I usually run high and was taken off of betas (now they think I may be having coronary spasms and they are debating on what to do). But My pressure at it's highest was 170/90 yesterday and then last night I could feel it plummet and sure enough 93/43! And I had dr's appt and she had taken my b/p 3 times in her office and got major fluctuations. I'm trying to find a great cardio because so far I've encountered duds. All I want is an ambulatory b/p monitor for 24 hrs. Does that sound too much to ask for?

Sorry about your ER visit. I've had more than my share and they all ask what do I want? Hello you are the drs you figure out what I need.

And yes, they hand you the normal ekg even though you feel like a truck has run you over.

Try to rest up. We're all here for you.

It stinks to feel this lousy.

You'll be in my thoughts.

Cordelia,

I wish I had the answers for you, and that I could take your pain away - that would make me one popular woman on this site! All I can do is tell you that we're all behind you, supporting you and empathizing with your pain, misery, fear, and the list goes on. I can relate to what you're going through, and wish you peace and comfort knowing all of us on this site wish you only the best. I hope you feel better very soon, and I'm sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

Take care,

Jana

{{{{ HUGS TO CORDELIA }}}}

At least HERE you'll find folks that DO understand..after all...we can ONLY take so much of this. Lots of support here..hang in there.

But JANA you do rock !!

I have stopped going to the ER. They mean well.. or...well..they can be MEAN!! Their job is to stop a crisis...save lives..treat..well..until they cannot. Because they do not know how. Like many MDs...they can test..evaluate and prescribe.

Yes it would so much to have a test or NAME to this monster that rules our very lives it seems.

The ONLY reason I even got referred and tested for autonomic problems is because my PCP's own mother went through 20 years of these symptoms !!! Lucky me. So many specialists...good intentions but seems to me their professional egos are shaken when they do not know what it IS or what to give you to treat it. So..many MDs put it back on the patient and BLAME them.

At least we have each other. Hang in there with us.. whine and vent all you want ok hon?

Warmly Jan

Hi Cordelia,

I am so sorry for what you are going through. It is hard enough to feel so sick physically, but when you go to a doctor you kind of hope they will "know" what to do. I think that is why so many of us end up feeling so frusterated with the medical field. Even if they mean well. Just answers can give us such a great deal of comfort when these things happen. I hope you will find those answers that would be so helpful when you go to the Clevland Clinic. Is your appointment soon? Please take care, and I hope you are feeing much better today.

Hi Cordelia,

I'm so sorry that your symptoms are so bad right now. I totally understand what you are experiencing. I also want to agree with the idea of trying to pin point the things that make your symptoms even worse. For example, today I had something with corn syrup in the ingredients and now I'm feeling so unwell and I know that what I ate made it all worse. It won't take away all your symptoms, but making a diary of everything you eat, and noting the weather, if you were under stress, anything you ate with preservatives (msg, nitrates, sodium benzote, artificial sweetners, etc.), high sugar foods, seasonings on foods can trigger heart rate issues, such as italian seasoning that has fennel and also bromelain, commonly found in tenderizers for making pork, steak, etc. affect heart rate. It will take a long time of trial and error but in time you'll find a pattern and see things you may want to avoid to try and keep symptoms at bay. Also, read on lemon balm tea and ginger tea as helpful liquids to drink.

Take care and I hope you can find some relief naturally until your appointment.

Cordelia,

Your a brave soul, and I would probably be flipping out if I had a swing in heart rate like you that quickly.

I'm sorry your symptoms have been worse lately, and hope the Cleveland Clinic can give you both answers, and a good treatment plan to make life better for you. Keep your chin up, and don't lose hope.

Take Care,

Maxine :0)
