I've found the Mag won't reduce the number of ectopics, just make them feel a bit softer. Combined with taurine, after a week or so the senstion is softer still and the numbers of them started to drop. I still get loads of them but it's certainly better than without.

Thanks @Outaker How is it going?  I was surprised that you are on both Tenex and Cardiodopa.  I think I am missing something?  Is the peripheral action against dopamine or some other catecholamine than norepinephrine (which the Tenex should hit?)?  Please let us know how it helps or not.  Thanks.

Tenex is Guanfacine which Is an Alpha 2 Agonist like clonidine. Carbidopa is a Parkinsons drug but it has been found to block perpipheral dopamine levels which prevents conversion to norepinephrine so in essence it lowers norepi in tissues not the brain. losartan is angiotesin 2 blocker.

  3. Don’t care about insurance at this point I’ll lay anything  I have seen the top doctors everywhere and they have no idea how to control my tachy and bp. Beta blockers make me so bad and the only thing that works barely is clonidine :(

  4. Rauwolfia’s effects on the heart include decreasing myocardial excitability, inhibiting atrial-ventricular conduction, and extending the refractory period of the heart rhythm.1

Much of the medicinal effects of Rauwolfia serpentina and Rauwolfia vomitoria have been attributed
to the hypotensive indole alkaloid reserpine.2Additional alkaloids found in Rauwolfia roots include the indoles ajmaline, ajmalicine, raubasine, imethylajmaline, methylisoajmaline, hydroxysarpagine, yohimbinic acid, and isorauhimbinic acid.3 The constituent ajmaline is thought to be antiarrhythmic.4

Before the advent of the current pharmaceutical options for hypertension (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, and angiotensin-converting Inhibitors), reserpine was a mainstay in the management of hypertension. Reserpine acts via the CNS to reduce sympathetic tone, increase parasympathetic activity, and help normalize blood pressure, especially when because of stress and sympathetic nervous responses, as it may partially block adrenaline receptors.5 Reserpine’s ability to block adrenoreception on blood vessels can reduce stress-induced vasoconstriction contributing to hypertension or heart palpitations.

  5. Nope just started researching this condition due to the adrenaline surges. I am looking to prevent any surges again in the future.

Rauwolfia drains norepinephrine from your synapses by 70 percent. The first hypertension drug developed Reseprine was based on this herb's alkoloids.

Thanks. Yes I have no intention of taking the Bisoprolol, if for no other reason than I just know they'll floor me and I can't afford the time off work.

I'm also seeing some limited success on magnesium and taurine supplements and I'm gonna try coconut water too. If it gets more desperate then I may consider it. I feel doctors are too quick to just jump to beta blockers and send you on your way. My POTS is manageable without the BB thankfully and I have bradycardia anyway.  So to my mind it's not a worthwhile risk currently.

    Hi @Outaker,

I'm afraid I haven't worked out a way to totally stop the POTS attacks from occurring.

For me, I find that if I get lots of rest, eat a healthy clean diet, and incorporate exercise (light strength training - no cardio), I am pretty stable. As soon as I mentally or physically over do it, I can find myself in a nice big POTS flare up.

I've also been on a daily beta-blocker for the last five years that has helped me a lot.

Do your attacks occur in clusters too? The one I'm in has been going for almost three weeks - I'm having an attack every second day which is a lot for me.

    Cheers,
    Angie

Hey ANgie have you tried rauwolfia?

@Pistol - such a good description of an adrenaline surge.

I'm in the midst of a POTS storm at the moment after a pretty good run.

The chest pain that comes with the attacks is particularly bad at the moment. I was wondering if anyone has explained to you what causes the chest pain? My cardiologist doesn't think it is cardiac in origin but I think it would help me to deal with the pain if I understood it better.

Also do you find your attacks occur in clusters?

    Thanks!

Angie how have you stopped them from occurring?
