Blood Infection- Port Had To Go :(

Hi, everyone I am home after five nights in the hospital. I had some severe blood infections, including E Coli. My beloved port-a-cath had to be removed due to the overwhelming risk of in getting infected from the Sepsis. So, I'm now part of the Gatoraders. However, after what we went through Sun.- Tues. and the very real fear of dying, I'll guzzle up gladly. But let me tell you all something, I had an excellent ER experience (from what I can remember) and I was admitted to the Cardiac Unit. I had a phenomenal team of doctors (about six-eight) including, TWO autonomic specialists!!!! They know Dr. Grubbs, about Cleveland Clinic, it was just such a HUGE blessing. Well, my road back will be slow but I really feel like I was being looked after.

i'm sorry that you lost your port :) i know the fluids have helped you so much. i can certainly relate to the frustration as well as the scare of being so acutely ill as i lost my broviac line (central catheter) in august due to infection & blood clots near the line...and i'd only had it for three weeks. i was in the hospital for 5 days as well and with all that happened in combo with some medication reactions soon thereafter it took me awhile to even get close to my baseline - which is nothing too grand itself. i had to get another line placed since i physically cannot get enough food or fluid intake by mouth, but i digress.....my point is be patient with yourself & your body; it's been through the wringer as of late.

hang in there...

:D melissa

p.s. are you on IV antibiotics going forward?? i'm thinking no though b/c then you'd have to have some sort of line access?
