Frequent Urination

I am in the bathroom all day peeing. Sometime I will be on my way out and have to turn around and go back, its that frequent. The problem is I wipe so much I have become raw and it hurts bad. I have flushing toilets ringing in my ears and I go through a pack of toilet paper rather fast. I know its pots, but there has to be some relief somewhere. Thank you.

Do you have excessive thirst? How much liquids are you drinking in a day? If you are drinking an excessive amount and urinating an excessive amount, have you been evaluated for diabetes (insulin) as well as diabetes insipidus?

In any event, I would recommend that you check with your doctor about your symptoms. We are your friends, but we are not doctors.

I would talk with your PCP about this first, be tested for a UTI as well as diabetes as someone had mentioned. And if everything checks out "ok" and you are still having problems, you may ask your PCP if they think you should be evaluated by a urologist. I had those problems, along with some other symptoms and needed to be evaluated by a urologist and found out that I had a bladder disorder. Good luck to you.

Since gettin POTS, I've notice lots of changes in my bathroom habits. Don't think the beta blockers help either. Anyways, using the "wet wipes" available in the bathroom tissue section of the store seems to help with sensitive skin vs. tp issues.

Wow. So less embarassing to talk about these things in a room full of people who may have similar problems. :)

it could also maybe be SIADH, where you basically pee too much. i agree, a 24 hr urine collection, a test for diabetes and a urinalysis would be good ideas. and it is a really good idea to use those soft cloths so you aren't raw and then susceptible to some kind of skin infection, plus not to mention the hurting. the "normal" output for a person is about 30 ml per hour (about 2 Tbsp) but we PoTser's usually drink way more, so we pee way more and it balances out. but what your describing sounds like a doctor checkup should be involved. good luck! peace, lulu

I've recently been suffering with a so-called neurogenic bladder. (Several days ago I sent you a PM through this site.) Anyhow, some tips to try for the soreness:

-Clean with mineral oil on a cotton ball which would also provide a little protetive barrier for the skin

-Desitin (baby) cream - a thicker barrier to prevent chafing and promote healing

-Launder underwear in Dreft or any other gentle baby detergent

-Hypoallergenic, fragrance free sensitive baby wipes instead of tp

-Be very careful of seams in underwear (location and thickness of them) and you may be more comfortable in skirts instead of pants for a while. Again, with pants be careful that the seams are not creating a large lump and subsequently, pressure where they overlap.

-OTC feminine anasthetic cream with benzocaine for severe soreness, esp. if you need to sit. It might sting for a few minutes, but numbs you for a few hours.

Vesicare prescribed by my rheumatologist helped me although the specialists I saw (urologist and 2 neurourologists) said it shouldn't work and would be contraindicated with some of my findings, yet they had nothing to offer. Dr. Grubb and I very briefly discussed this. When I asked about DDAVP as he recommends in his Syncope book, he mentioned recent use of Cialis for POTS/neurogenic bladder. He said many POTS patients have neurogenic bladder and overflow incontinence. I asked him for some info in medical literature or studies, but have yet to recieve any. I will pass along anything useful I come across. As an aside, Detrol LA made me worse - after 2 weeks I had to strain a lot although I still always had the urge to go. It took a while to find something that helped, so as long as the Vesicare works I'm sticking with it.

Take care.
