halmad85
Hey guys! How's everyone? Well, I had a rough weekend. My pulse stayed in the 40's throughout the days and continuing through Mon. I had such terrible pressure in my chest and head. The head pressure is caused from taking Sectral (anyone else have that?). Then with my chest, everytime I would sit or lat down I had one massive palpitation after another. I always have palpitations, but never like that. My bp went as high as 156/91 149/98. I know that's nothing too bad...but I usually run a systolic under 100. So, I was a little nervous about these bps. I called my doc on Monday and he had me go to the ER. Well, they found nothing wrong. While I was there my bp was higher, pulse was in the 50's instead of 40's. EKG, CXR, CT scan of head, Labs...all normal. I hate feeling like something's wrong and going into the ER just to find out I wasted my time and money. I'm considering just keeping my symptoms to myself from now on. Well, now they're setting me up for a cardiac event monitor so at least if something happens again, I won't be the only one to know it. I held the Sectral last night and haven't had all the pressure and palps today...but I can't continue to take it only once a day because by the time I go to work, I'll be so sick. I hate feeling like this. I'm seeing an EP specialist on the 7th. I'm really not sure what he could do for me that my regular cardio hasn't done. We'll see. I just wish I could tell the difference between an emergency and POTS. Ya know what I mean?
Clairefmartin
amen....it is so frustrating to not know if you need to go the ER or not - the last time i went all i needed was salt and fluids, and probably not via an IV..... but i guess its better to be safe than sorry! heart issues are especially scary, and no one wants to mistakenly attribute something to POTS when its a real emergency and can cause permenent damage - so you did the right thing!good luck with the EP, mine has been way more knowledgable than my regular cardio, so much that i don't even see the regular cardio anymore
Jacquie802
Hi there,An EP Specialist/Cardio is what I have. He has done the most for me treatment wise, so that is a good move to see an EP Specialist. I got lucky because mine is both EP and Cardiologist. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck!!Jacquie
AJVDK
I am sorry about your vist to the er. I hate going to the ER also, as you don't know whats going to happen, most of the time the never find anything wrong and I think I am going crasy. I am lucky as my Pacer records my events. I find that an EP is the best to see then is come to problems with the heart rate. It you have any of you old records I would take those to as it help regarding treatment, if you already have the POTS.... or other dx. I wish you the best and hope you start feeling better soon! 1pl8ump
typically what i have found is POTS is an unknown even to most EP's. they actually deal in the "circuitry" of your heart whereas a cardio deals w/your entire heart as a muscle (chambers, chiari, etc.). the EP usually is taking your symptoms and "running down HIS known checklist." kind of like the throw the spaghetti on the wall, see if it sticks, then it's done. unfortunately, as you all know too well, there are still too many questions as to whether the conditon is neuro or cardio.
