Hello, I hate to hear that you're experiencing insomnia due to your autonomic dysfunction. Personally, I have not tried GABA but I would consult with your doctor before taking any new medication. For me, Melatonin increased my daytime fatigue and brain fog, but it did improve my sleep. I suggest you ask your physician for a referral to a sleep medicine doctor.. Below are some tips for insomnia with dysautonomia (http://standinguptopots.org/treatment/insomnia):

  • Try a 10,000 lumen light every morning to reset the sleep/wake cycle
  • Exercise at least three hours prior to bedtime (try exercising in the afternoon)
  • Avoid large meals 3 hours before bedtime, limit caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
  • Go to bed and wake up at the same time each day
  • Pursue treatment for any underlying depression and anxiety

My wife uses sleepytime tea or cbd capsules(not thc). PM me for more info if interested.  I cant post links here on the main forum. The CBD company she uses gives 60 percent off for disabled or low income individuals.

I have used GABA- not for sleep, but for anxiety.  If you decide to use it, look at the manufacturer as they are not controlled by FDA.  Swansons Vitamins is a good US based company, in my experience.
