LTCBL
Has any POTS patient ever experienced syncope while sitting down in a comfortable room? If so, how did you treat it, did you continue to have some dizziness and headaches for over 24 hours?LTC Bill
Katybug
I have not had full syncope, but I often experience presyncope even when sitting. I think some of it has to do with the chair, what angle it puts my torso/legs and also my knee joints at. If I'm too upright or my knees are over bent it makes me not feel well. I hate waiting in doctor's offices because their chairs always seem to be some of the worst offenders. It is not unusual for pots patients to be symptomatic even in a sitting posit from my understanding.
Mike
I don't have POTS but I have NCS, I have had a syncope episode while sitting. The first time was before I knew I had NCS, it was a long day of not feeling well and was taken to the ER, while sitting in a wheelchair in the waiting room I passed out. The second time was a very close call, it was during one of my tests, they were monitoring me and they laid me down when my blood pressure started to drop. I've also had many close calls just sitting around the house, I often keep my feet up on a rest or recliner, I can't sit in a normal sitting position for very long. Bigskyfam
I've come close to passing out while sitting in car... Hubby was driving me to er. I do agree with katybug. Positioning is important to consider. My pots specialist took her first look at me in her exam room and said don't you look like a pots patient. I was sitting on the table with my knees up to my chest and my arms hugging my legs. It feels more comfortable in a little ball.
jackiemxoxo
I never have had full syncope but pre-syncope (like Kadybug) when I first became sick. I could feel the pooling and dizziness even when just sitting. I treated it the same way as full syncope with meds and fluids. At the time I had iv's, paxil, florinef, and some gi meds. Eventually I knew I was getting better because sitting got easier then standing. This is just my experience though and everyones can be so different. Also, I agree that positional changes can affect it as well.
Dops
Yes I can do that But it was worse before I got on medication. In the past I did not tolerate inactivity at all, so sleeping at night was the worst thing ever ;-) I have not faintet while lying since I got on meds, but I have experienced a few pre-syncopes. I don't really care because I feel so much better after I have fainted So you should be carefull and do the counterpressure maneuvers when you feel dizzy. I often feel awful a long time. ptalaura
I have found myself getting presyncope spells when I am rocking in my chair. So going to have to stop that! I have had it also without rocking also feels like everything is just dropping down inside. It feels like that also when I stand up too. So weird. My norm. KaoruZ
I have passed out quite a few times while sitting. It's usually while I'm having a conversation, sitting in class, or painting. If I'm just waiting, I feel awful but I don't pass out. I can last longer if I prop my feet up.
