looneymom
My son is currently on 40 mg of midodrine 3 times daily because he has low blood pressure. In the beginning, when he was first diagnoised, he was only on 10mg 3 times daily. I had to monitor his blood pressure daily until he got to the right dosage. Until you get to the right dosage, you will feel pretty potsy. While trying to get to the right dosage, my son's bp would also spike. I sent in my son's blood pressure reading in weekly to the doctors office, so the cardiologist could see what was happening.

Guest Alex
Last I heard the fda decided to keep midodrine on the market, but I might not have the latest info. You can try a search on the forum, I recall midodrine being extensively discussed here in the past.I didn't tolerate it well, it increased my BP too much, and it made me itchy.Hopefully your dr mentioned to you that it tends to increase your supine BP so you shouldn't take it before going to bed, if you plan on taking a nap, or simply to lie down for extended times.Best,Alex
Achilles2323
yea didn't exactly tell me much about the med =/
Chaos
It seems to be like all the meds....works great for some of us, doesn't help others. For me, it helped me a lot. I tend to have low BP though. I was on a beta blocker to lower HR and I think the midodrine also helped to counteract the effects of the beta blocker on my BP. khaarina
I have had a very good experience with Midodrine, so I would say it is definitely worth a try. You'll probably get a tingly scalp, but I kind of like it because this med has a short life and the tingling lets you know it is in your system and working its magic. YolaInBlue
My hospital doctor started me on Midodrine and Florineff when I was diagnosed back in October. Midodrine helped me ease one of my bad "episodes" within 30 minutes (usually they last for several hours). My family doctor advised me to stop Midodrine, saying that it's a bad drug and she wouldn't take it. Then in December I've seen dr. Thompson (dysautonomia specialist) and he put me back on Midodrine. I'm not fully functional either way but Midodrine helps me with dizziness better than anything else. I take small dose (5mg) when I'm tachy and have to be upright for some time. I have both sympathetic and parasympathetic systems overactive so I go through brachycardia, tachycardia, low blood pressure, as well as high blood pressure spikes. My "episodes" are h**l with both systems "fighting" with each other. Low heart rates scare me the most. I only take Midodrine now when my heart rate is high and blood pressure low. It's a short acting drug (about 4 hours). Helps my mornings a lot. I have no side effects so far with 5mg dose once or twice a day.
tinkerbella
I've taken both in the past. I used to have to take midodrine before bedtime and at bedtime. I didn't like the side effects. Because I am so Medicationsensitive I now use IV therapy @ home. For a while I used salt tabs and water before I got out of bed in the AM. This got harder and harder to do for me.Good Luck All! Relax86
Very helpful drug for me. There's a lot on this forum about people who used it for what symptoms and why. It might help you to search the forum to learn more because a huge cross section and some of the smartest people that I learned from are no longer routinely on here
Gerrik1
I have been on Midodrine since I was diagnosed in '03 and without it I do not function. My B/P's are to low. I do need to take a Beta Blocker to help lower my heart rate also but thats not all from the Midodrine. When I'm off my meds, my B/P's are low and my HR is high when ever I try to stand and I will usually pass out. So I stay on my meds. My MD has tried a few times to tapper me off but just does not work for me. I need the meds.
