Presyncope Without Tachycarida--Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

Since I have been on Florinef, my episodes of tachycardia are almost completely gone. I do get mild attacks periodically but nothing like before. Nonetheless, i still get presyncope type feelings. Does anyone else get these feelings in the absence of tachycardia?

lemons,

I get this sometimes. I won't be tachy but I will feel pre-syncopal. I still pool in my legs even when I'm not tachy and that's the best reason I can come up with for why it happens. I just had a geneticist confirm a dx of EDS Hypermobile Type (3) too. She is extremely concerned that I have not been checked for a Chiari malformation based on many of my neuro symptoms, migrianes w/facial swelling, and POTS. She said that a Chiari malformation could be the cause of my autonomic symptoms. I also have MCAD and this also complicates matters because these pre-syncopal episodes without tachy could be a reaction to some trigger I just haven't identified yet. But, I know for sure that I still have the blood pooling even when I don't have tachy...so I'm going with that as a sure thing. LOL! Is that all confusing enough?!

With atenolol (and maybe some contribution from the pyridostigmine and clonidine), I have very rare tachycardia - my HR rarely goes above 120 and maxes out at 150 under strenuous exercise. However, I get presyncope very frequently - daily now with the clonidine, but worth it given its other positive effects. So I guess I'm another one!

I don't know about y'all, but my presyncope is constant. I also get time periods (especially under stress) where my presyncope ramps up and very nearly turns into syncope.

I'm currently taking .1 mg florinef 20 mg propanolol and 25 mg losartan. This drug regiment has helped my presyncope somewhat, but I still have the tachycardia.

Probably will be doing some further dose adjustments.

I've had the presyncope even when I'm lying down and my HR is normal.

It's likely due to norepinephrine throwing off the proper autoregulation of the blood vessels.

I notice that after a long run, my presyncope is helped a lot even though my tachycardia is actually increased. This study probably explains why:

Yes, thanks for posting Jangle. That's exactly what I experience. After exercise my tachycardia is much worse, but I can usually walk around feeling ok. Other times my heartrates are 85 standing, but I feel faint and like I'm being squeezed all over. At that point, my bp is up around 135/95 obviously high. I don't understand any of it.

I don't know if what I'm suffering from is presyncope, but most of the time I feel terribly lightheaded, depersonalised, vision is highly disturbed (blurry, inability to judge distance, paving patterns jump out like 3d pictures). This feeling has become pretty much constant over the last couple of months.

I'm not getting tachycardia due to the high dose of clonidine I take; I'm currently feeling terrible, so just took my standing pulse and it was only 71. The purple colour in my legs used only to be around my knees, now it's spread down to my calves, possible up to my abdomen too, so I guess that means it must be progressing somehow. I can't wear compression stockings as they worsen the paresthesias in my feet.

Does this sound like I might be suffering presyncopal symptoms ?

  • 3 weeks later...

Florinef 0.1g has been a miracle drug for me in managing POTS in the last 6 months

Tachycardia has been well controlled with it but i have definately still experienced pre-syncope on and off although milder than my pre Florinef days.

My specialist instructed me to bring my dose down to 0.05 at the end of Nov.

Over the last 2+ weeks ive been slipping down the POT's hill quickly at the reduced dose with all symptoms worsening, extreme fatigue and much worse pre-syncope but still no extreme Tachy!

However I must say today Ive started to feel the HR begin to ramp up a bit im guessing its starting to compensate now for Low BP with the reduced dose of Florinef.

I dont understand it all fully yet! But defo a Potsy here with pre-syncope and no Tachy on Florinef!

I dont these days, my tachy is so constant with movement its ridiculous, however when diagnosed with autonaumic dysfunction as a child (back when pots was even less known) I did not always have tachy and I would pass out daily sometimes several times. My heart rate would actually slow on some occassions. I actually think syncope is worse without the tachy, because there is no compensatory action there. (atleast for me)
