Burning Sensations

Hi ND, do you mean externally on the skin or inside in the muscles. I get burning sensations on my skin so far on my legs, butt and stomach/rib area, but I also get burning in my muscles - I liken it to when I used to do heavy weight training and I overdone it and got the lactic acid build up in my muscles that would cause the similar burning sensation. I am not talking about the aches the day after doing weights which are painful but the burning sensation whilst doing the weights.I get it now for just standing or even if I have got out of my car and lifted my handbag out and that extra weight seems makes my legs/arms burn and feel weak. I can bend over to pick up my cat and my legs get this burning, weak feeling.

I did write this down when I went to see the rheumy and he said it's part of the pots. :)

I do get that burning sensation...its hard to describe but I definately think its a nerve issue. I have alot of back issues and also had a hysterectomy several years ago and found I started having the burning issues afterwards. My neuro and back dr have both said they believe it is like a nerve issue....also I have high levels of epinephrine all the time and I wonder if it isnt a side effect from that irritating all the nerves. I am going to ask my auto specialist next week...will keep you posted on what he says

Just in case your doctors do not know about supplements to help our nerves that need a LOT of support and healing...Alpha Lipoic Acid is amazing. You can Google about how good it is for our nerves. Has healed my feet. :D

Hi there....I'm pretty sure that you and I have talked about mast cell activation before as a possibility for you. If that's the case, I can tell you that would definitely be a symptom of it. Not that you have it of course, but I and a lot of my friends with it get that type of thing all the time. Have you pursued any antihistamines just as a trial or any testing for that condition?

My leg burning happens at the end of showering when I wash my hair. Looked it up and it appears it is a sign of lack of blood flow to the skin. A few weeks ago it was so bad that my legs gave way and I just hurled myself onto the bathroom floor, taking the shower curtain with me (shades of Psycho!).

So high adrenaline draws blood to muscles, heart, etc. and away from the skin, which leads to the burning sensation. Sorry I'm not feeling up to finding the article on this for y'all.

I also agree that the MAST cell issue could be involved - but I always have crimson red extremities when this happens and can tell the difference.

I hope this improved for you soon - it's very painful and that obviously just perpetuates the NE cycle.

I get the shower/leg burning sensation too. But I'll get burning in my feet where it feels like I'm walking with sand in my shoes, when that happens it usually moves up my legs and then get muscle cramps really bad. Have needed help getting out the car before when that's happened. I also get the pins/needles feeling and what I call the icy/hot effect. This is where it feels like someone just slathered on a clump of icy/hot onto a random area on my skin. I too have the dead leg/foot or arm feeling. Usually worse when I'm tachy.
