lissy
I have this problem and it only goes to the complete aura maybe 3 times a year but its terrifying to me. I had it today now I'm left with a throbbing head and weird weakness. Does anyone have a good treatment for this? I know I can't have migraine meds because of low B/P have you had any success with anything. Thanks Lissy
mieux7
Lissy, I don't know if I have any resolution for you, but I've had these and they're no fun. It's not unusual that they leave you feeling weak, though I never got an actual headache with them. My brother has them too. In my case, mine started about 10 years ago and now I know they were due to gluten exposure (I have Celiac Disease that went undiagnosed for 7 years). Since eating gluten-free, I've only had one and that was due to inadvertent cross-contamination exposure. My brother's may or may not be related Celiac Disease, which is genetic. I suspect he has it, but he refuses to be tested. Have no idea if that might offer a clue in your case. I'm sure there are other causes. I know they're scary as all get out. Hang in there. flop
I know many people on the forum get migraines. Have simple painkillers like ibuprofen (motrin) helped at all for you? There must be some sort of migraine treatment that doesn't drop your BP - sounds like a neuro consult with someone interested in headaches might help you. Hope you get some relief soon,Flop
lissy
Thank you both,It has stopped it lasts hours usually well the aura only 45 mins at the most. I really wonder what the trigger is today I woke up layed in bed for about an hour and boom I ate nothing and wasn't exposed to nothing. Anyway I'm glad its gone the aura is the worse for me I always worry if it will happen if I was out in public or driving, I don't drive much anyway but god what would someone do in that case pull over for an hour!!! its crazy...I mentioned it to the doc when it 1st happend they did an MRI and said my mri was normal and that was it.Maybe a specialist could offer me some options.Hopefully it doesn't happen for and 6 month:PLissy
sue1234
I have gotten about 3 in the last 25 years, and 100% of them were female hormone related. The first time it happened way back, I was on Clomid to get pregnant and it happened. I never took The Pill my whole life, as we only conceived with Clomid. Well, then our surprise baby out of the blue! Then, a couple of years ago, I thought maybe I was feeling bad related to perimenopause, so went to a "natural" doctor to have all my levels checked. He prescribed the made-up combo cream for me, and on the first day had my migraine auro. This year I think maybe I'll try some OTC progesterone. I have an aura again that same day. So, I KNOW it is hormone related for me.

handmadebyemy
Yes, I get migraine with aura, it runs in my family. Usually its when I'm under a lot of stress. Imitrex helps with the pain and weakness, but will sometimes give me rebound headaches so I try not to take it. I think the best thing is a dark quiet room & trying to sleep it off. They often come in cycles so don't be discouraged if you get a few this week/month, hopefully it will pass! Nikki
I get these a couple times a year too. For me, I know artificial sweeteners are a trigger for sure so I completely avoid them. For me my vision gets all weird and kind of warped out of nowhere..Like if I'm reading, the words just seem to start running together or something. Shortly after I'll see a tiny bright speck in my vision that quickly turns into bright zig zag lines flashing on one side of my vision and slowly travels to the other side within 35/40 minutes. It was really scary at first but now I just kind of lay down and cover my face with a pillow or something to block out the light. I think it goes away a lot quicker that way. Afterwards I have bad headache and feel dizzy (more than normal lol) and sick in my stomach. Not fun at all..
firewatcher
I have migraine without aura, but colors, smells and sounds intensify before an attack. I know one is coming when everything looks like technicolor. This article might point to the connection between our brains and dysautonomia:http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/06/100623085526.htmsorry I can't create a link. Darlene
I have auro w/out the migraine, and it freaks me out. All of a sudden my vision gets distorted, I see what looks like lightning, too hard to explain. After 20 minutes my vision goes back to normal.
