mcaimless
is there lyme disease in australia?Good question. The best I can see is this from a public health publication:"The existence of Lyme disease in Australia continues to be debated."
Rosie
Ramakentesh... thank you for responding. I try not to be nosy, but I am curious. I cannot prove the Autoimmune/Autoinflammatory connection at this point. However, the overlap in symptoms seem to be too many to consider it to be coincidental.Genetic testing is not too far away. I saw something that said in the near future sequencing of one's genome will cost about $1000.00. I think much of the speculation will soon be put to rest. I do wish you well, and I hope this flare is short.
Annaliese
Yes, there is lyme in australia. I know someone with it. Re the causes for pots/dys has anyone ever collected the information from this forum and put it into a database? Most people have their diagnoses up so it would be possible. Ive noticed many if not most people have some sort of autoimmne disease alongside their dys. Perhaps the autoimmune subset proportion has been underestimated in the literature? ramakentesh
Why did you bring this old one up? LOL
RichGotsPots
I actually had a Lyme Tick bite with a huge bull's eye on my leg about 1 year (I need to check) before POTS. I went to an infectious specialist and he tested and my Lyme didnt show up in the blood. He gave me strong antibiotics for 6-8 weeks and that was it. I didnt have any symptoms. But then about 1 month before POTS I had food poisoning from chicken soup (ER visit) and a stomach virus back to back, lost a lot of weight. Then painted my basement with toxic chemical paint. Then POTS kicked in 2 weeks after painting........The lack of immunity might open a door for damage, but one the damage is done I think you have to treat the damage and if possible prevent more damage.. Annaliese
Why did i bring this old one up? Was searching for mentions of LDN and found it. Made me wonder if we can collect any of our own data-theres so much info on here re peoples histories. Otherwise we might die waiting around for researchers to come up with the answers.Did you prefer this one buried? ; )
julieph85
Gary brings up a good point with this. He mentions birthing twins as being traumatic to the body to cause POTS. Mine started at the end of my pregnancy.... with twins! I think his theory is spot on because not only does pregnancy supress the immune system as he postulates, I also carried twins which he describes as traumatic to the body.... makes sense to me! HopeSprings
Rich - you sound like me. I can point to at least 4 possible triggers. I go round and round with this in my head. I guess we'll never know for sure - it's so confusing and frustrating.
juliegee
I think that's true for many of us. there may not be ONE triggering event. Our immune systems suffer multiple onslaughts before FREAKING Is that a medical term? Before Mack got sick at 12 y/o, he hit puberty, grew six inches, attended a very physically demanding sleep away soccer camp, travelled across country to visit Grandma, and was struck with an awful virus. Any and all of those things were stressful, but layered together, they depleted his immune system. Going along with Gary's theory, many of us (like me) can actually demonstrate a deficient immune system, with hypogammaglobulinemia. I think what's left of my immune system is hypervigilant- might explain the wonky overly reactive mast cells...
Annaliese
I urge people who think they have autoimmune disease to look at the research thats currently being done on low dose naltrexone. In clinical trials they have seen positive effects in treating many autoimmune diseases and also HIV. I have spent a long time researching it and now im going to try to convince my gp to prescribe it. See Ihttp://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/ldn_trials.htm
