  1. POTS patients often have preserved vagal function (as reflected by their sinus arrhythmia ratio in response to deep breathing) and a vigorous pressor response to the Valsalva maneuver, I get this!! brill, more and more research I like!
  2. Would seeing Prof M be any use in treatment? I have private insurance so would be willing to try see him
  3. I am currently seeing Dr Kim Rajappan at Oxford Manor Hospital private, he also does NHS at the Oxford John Radcliffe.
  4. Sometimes it can be 105-110 depending on the day. And then when I start doing things like a shower it will go up 120's so its uncomfortable like im doing a fast walk!
  5. Freaked I get them twitches all over cant believe someone else does too with pots and ive had all sorts of heart tests for excercise chest pain! Ecgs Stress ecg Echocardiograms Cardiac mri and mr angiogram 24 h holter All normal I hate pots lol
  6. Hello My hr usually goes from 62 to 95 on standing. Hate the feeling and it makes me feel as if ive been excersising just by standing up! My cardiologist is going to try me on bisoprolol 1.25mg im hoping these will blunt the response and bring it down a little. Will bringing a persons hr down with beta blocker cause any problems? Like the heart rate is keeping blood up from pooling in legs etc? A lot of people vouch for beta blockers. I just cant bare it been so fast from doing nothing any more . Ive neen very depressed these last few weeks. Not wanting to do anything etc. Ive got it in my head my chest pain is a coronary artery anomaly so I had a mri and they were sure it was fine 90% but im paranoid so going for another to make it 100. Lol. So yeah...discuss beta blockers . I just want a rise of 15 in hr that would be so amazing.
  7. Yeah, I think after the tests I've alread had and my age it cant possibly be anything...just pots...
  8. I am looking to study cardiology when I feel well, I can almost assure that an increase in HR does not primarily cause heart attacks, and any cardiologist would tell you the same. A heart attack is usually caused by blocked coronary arteries, which is progressive for years unless you had a genetic form which is rare and runs in family's so you would know. Second, would be problems with the hearts electrical pathways which would cause an abnormal arrhythmia from an increase heart rate, so just an increase in HR will not cause the attack, there is always a cause. Pots therefore wont cause a heart attack primarily, but could aggravate a heart problem / artery blockage, even if you didn't have pots just running or swimming would be the same result. If your concerned you can have a CT Calcium score which assesses the risk of blocked arteries and does not require a dye or huge amount of radiation. However, these are not 100%, but give a good indication.
  9. Yeah, I dont think i'll have it. But keep it as an option if it got worse as I get older etc. But there's no way I should have Coronary Artery Disease at my age, especially when I got the symptoms at 17-18 around when POTS was starting!
  10. Hello, When I exercise I get a strange chest pain/sensation which goes when I stop like angina would, Ive had ECG, Stress ECG, Echocardiogram, Cardiac MRI/MRA, - To check my coronary arteries are in the right places as you can be born with them in dangerous origins. Normal. 24 Hour ECG, Bloods. Now I kept asking my doctors and they said it's not related to my heart, I got it at 18 and now I'm 22. My doctor said we can arrange a CT Angiogram for your anxiety, but this involves a contrast dye been injected and I'm scared of an allergic reaction and the fact he said I expect the result to be normal, making me think I should just put it down to my pots and leave it. There's also the ionizing radiation. My only concern is the MRI, showed my left coronary arterty image fine, but the right they said wasnt the best quality but they are fairly sure its in the right place from the image and said they can be 90% sure and he said the chance they miss an analomous artery and my symptoms are from that is vanishingly small and recommended no further tests. Argghh!
  11. So, having such a bad time with symptoms at the moment, 5 year partner cheated and now im single. Severley getting depressed with all this, its now like great gotta go on dates and all that, but how like this..........PFFT POTS IS RUBBISH
  12. Hello guys, I woke up this morning, took my BP while in bed and it was 103/47 HR 68. I am quite concerned as I have never had it this low when I'm up and sat down, It's probably been like this for ages as I've not really checked in the morning in bed. When I sit up / get up it goes up to what is usually is around 115-130/56-80. Anyone else get this? I'm not sure if I should be concerned, the top number is still normal just the bottom, maybe its just from been relaxed in bed? I've had all sorts of tests too; ECG Stress ECG 24 Hour ECG Cardiac MRI/MRA Echocardiogram Bloods, So i'm sure theres nothing structually wrong with my heart .
  13. Hello, My symptoms are: Light headed for 5-10seconds when standing (does not happen EVERY time) - Blood pressure does not drop, it sometimes goes up for a few mins then back to normal, or does not change at all really. ** maybe it drops fast and comes back up fast so I cant catch it on my BP Machine? Heart rate goes from normal resting to between 95-110 Strangely enough, my heart rate sometimes will stay normal and not go up much like a normal person which I dont get why sometimes it does what it should and then times it doesnt. But I still get the lighheadedness when standing My idea for treatment is: Midodrine to bring blood pressure up by about 10pts, my blood pressure is always between 103/60-138/80 so its normal, but I think the midodrine could help with the light headedness when standing up, any opinions? Low does beta blocker to bring HR down by 10-15 points. I think these combined could put my symptoms to non-existant which would be amazing. I also suffer from anxiety so the beta blocker would be another bird with that stone also. What do you guys think to my plan?
  14. My doctor gave me Cilatropam SSRI for anxiety which I didnt use, Do they actually improve POTS at all?
  15. My bp goes up when standing too and I get a weird feeling in my head for like 10 secs, hate it. my heart usually goes to 90-110. If we can bring it down to 75-80 i'd be so happy. My symptoms apart from that are not existing thankfully, just my heart is the symptom! Sometimes when I stand I get that adrenalin pain in my chest, I hate it!
  16. What was your standing heart rate before and then after beta blockers?
  17. Hi, My cardio said he would let me try beta blockers if I wanted to, My question is, my heart rate is usually around 52-60 sometimes at night so beta blockers would put this into the 40's? quite nerve racking. Also, when I stand up I do get quite a few times where I dont get tachy and it goes up like a normal persons without pots would, which I love lol, still get the headrush feeling for a few seconds though hate that it *****! Usually though my hr goes from like 60-70's to 95-110's. Would you try them?
  18. Ive been to the ER like 5 times now, all they did was an ECG and said I was not having heart attack lol. I waiting for that 2 minute answer in the wiating room for like 8 hours. The only possible thing with if it was my heart is heart disease but getting that at 18, it doesnt happen, so i'll have to deal with it.
  19. Hey guys, Since 17-18 when I got POTS, I get a Angina type chest pain when I excersise, doctors all say its not coronary artery disease at my age which I agree it would not happen unless I had a genetic form or problem which I dont. I've had ECGS, Stress ECG, Echocardiogram, 24 Hour ECG, Cardiac MRI and MRA Cholesterol and bloods All normal to the point it got me thinking it cant be my heart! Now its come to light I do have POTS, even though quite mild compared to a lot of people here, I do feel for you. That its probably related. Any one get something similar? really puts me off doing things, sometimes I get it walking somewhere with a friend and Im like stop a minute got chest pain, sound like im dieing!
  20. Thanks, I've bought an excercise bike so I am planning to do 20 mins per day and each week up it by 5 minutes to get fit as possible! Surely if someone who has not excercised for 6 years(not good I know!) properly will allow the heart to get stronger and allow more volume of blood to be pumped around the body, so I'm assuming it will bring my standing heart rate down or if it raises at first it will come down faster with more energy. I might do a blog or something stating my excercise and diet seeing what results I get over the next 6 months or so! Its getting me down a little, I was the fittest in my class at school! could run for ages! Blooming Pots! lol.
  21. Hi guys, So I went to a specialist cardiologist on Tuesday, knows his stuff! He didn't even want to do a tilt table as I did it while having a ecg . He said as my rate goes up from 66 to 94-105 its not going to cause much issues, which is true still anxious though! I was happy he actually agreed it was POTS and finally have an answer. The advise is he doesnt want someone so young just to be on pills, he said as I got it as a teen there is a good chance is could go on its own in a few years, and advised me to get an excercise plan and drink 2-3l water a day and if there is no improvements in the way I feel in 2 months he will let me have low dose beta blockers which should help . As i'm quite unfit, i'm hoping if I do biking every day it will bring my heart rate down a little and give me more strength and energy.
  22. Thank you . Cant wait to get back to normal or near enough more active gets boring inside haha.
  23. Hmm, I'm just wondering what the doctor will try me on since my blood pressure is always in normal ranges, its the HR out of sync!
