Compression Stockings Tighter Than 30-40?

Hi,

I asked the lady (she is a nurse) who owns the business who sells my compression hose if I could wear two pairs of 30-40 mm one on top of the other and she said I could have a heart attack. I don't know if it's true but it kind of discouraged me from trying.

I had figured that if one pair helps me to stand for 10 minutes, 2 pairs could help me stand for 20 minutes. I think I will ask my specialist about it because I have very severe vasodilation.

I think I saw 40-50 somewhere, but don't remember where (maybe one of the websites would have them or know). If not, maybe you could get them custom made. Another option would be a compression girdle. I think my worst pooling is in my abdomen, but unfortunately I can't tolerate anything tight on my stomach!

tearose here..AKA..."Queen of Compression" :P

I have used the 40-50 ONLY because I have lymphedema in my left leg (and arm)

I do not recommed that level to treat our POTS.

Trust me, you do NOT want to go there!

Problems are: much more difficult to don, and there are more opportunities to have a bunching going on and cause a problem.

This level of compression is meant to remove excessive lymphatic fluids.

I asked Juzo about layering two. It was not advised to layer two pair together. They ride a little over each other and do not offer accurate levels of compression. IF someone were to do this, it was suggested to use a lighter pair over the first pair...say if you are going up a mountain in Colorado and are starting to hyperventalate and can't get back to sea level fast enough..use a 12-20mm pair over what ever you have on.

For real daily living, I have figured out that using a girdle type garment helps incredibly for my daily life used under my 30-40 compression hose. It does take about 20 minutes to move around in the morning and get use to them...yes, every morning it takes adjusting. Only when I am having much more symptomatic spanchnic pooling do I then put on another garment, an abdominal binder, like a corset.

I just can't imagine how I will ever be able to manage all this when I am 100 years old!

Try here.

I have used several styles. These are available latex free and their are comfortable for having to use for long periods of time.

http://designveronique.com/cgi-bin/ic/dv2/scan/

Although I have several, when I do need to avoid splanchnic pooling I use the style #1653.

I have found that the smooth one piece is more consistent a pressure. I don't get a bubble or overlap between the waist and binder. I also really like the "emergency exit" in the bottom if you get what I am inferring to... You may have to try a few before seeing what suits you best.

I just took this information off my own label:

Design Veronique

Style # 1653

Made in Ca USA

510-970-7990

75% Nylon 25% spandex

Laytex free

Hand wash warm

Line dry no bleach

Before I used this brand I used "Rago" and the binder was more like a corset.

hope this helps,

bless you! If only I was helping you shop for diamonds instead.

I do not have any problem wearing my 30-40mm hose over this garment. The leg hem is nicely done in a not too snug lace and it is not visible under my pants leg either.

(Okay, I will share this...If I am having a dripping bladder issue, I will put my cotton undies over the torso garment and under the hose. Did you get that? This way I can still get to the ladies room fast if necessary and will not need to undress)

The weird thing for me is that at 5'3" and around 110lbs. I really don't have unsightly bulges. Like I would really want to wear this stuff? You have to know I only know so much about this because these garments improve the quality of my life ten fold!!

I'm your height, but carry somewhat more poundage, so... I've got some bulges!

but I hear you on putting up with some discomfort in the name of not passing out. My main concern is that I currently already wear a low back brace, two knee braces, and two ankle braces, so this would add to the fun-- but again, probably worth it.

How is the hot and itchy factor?

IF I personally feel hot, it is only in the summer and then I simply spray some cold water on the torso and cool right down. It actually seems to wick away heat.

I have barroreceptor issues in my lower legs and don't experience sweaty legs...so I do not experience overheat sensations on my legs.

Although more costly,I stay with Juzo for the compression hose for the least itchy feeling and the Veronique is latex free and not itchy.

With all your braces and my extra arm compression and seat cane we would make quite a sight to be seen together!!!

The things we do for life!

warm regards,

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wanted to let you know I've gotten a compression "girdle" from design veronique. I like it and think it helps. too bad they are so expensive! I hope they are durable, at these prices. I think I'll get another two or so, so I don't have to wash the same one out every night. the one I have has hooks in the crotch, so going to the bathroom is a little bit of an ordeal.

But I do feel like some 1950s overly girdled type. (It does smooth out some bulges, but fat has to go somewhere, so I'm spilling out a bit over the back. ) Luckily I don't think you can tell by looking at me how much stuff I have on underneath-- between stockings, corset, and braces!

Well congratulations on your new lease on life! I do hope to hear it helps you as it does me.

Please tell me how that style works for you. What is your style number?

I actually have had three of the model 1653, for three years. I purchased one and tried it and then got two more. I used two for a long time and only about 10 months ago opened the third. They wear like armor. I got the model without the crotch and this way I can get a lot more use from the one and then wash less frequently. I hardly ever sweat on my torso so I can get a good four or five days of wear from one. I don't think this would be the case if it was one with a crotch. I have only hand washed and put it flat to dry. Oh, if you get a little static feeling from winter layers, just rub a fabric softener sheet over it and you are good to go no static shocks!

I think I am just about ready to replace at least one so do keep me posted on the pros and cons of your style.

again, good luck with it,

I've found a comfortable easy to get-into combo that is working for me. I found a pair of neoprene zip-up shorts by Everlast that comes up several inches above the waist but doesn't roll. By getting a pair that was small and tight, they give really good compression and go to the knee. Then I wear Bright Life Italian cotton 20-30 knee socks and only my knees aren't compressed, which bothered me anyway with the pantyhose.
