MikeO
Well after decompressing from my latest flare up i have gone back to eating my safe foods and not eating any refrigerated leftovers. Looking back i did note in my diary that i have had issues with allergy symptoms and small flares with my GI, sudden drops in blood pressure and passed out a few times. After a few tries with Dr Google i did read some articles that bone broth or in my case homemade bone broth is high in histamine. Has anyone linked issues or flare ups with this? or know something better than google thinks. I am starting to think that half my mess is due to me dumping histamine or whatever comes with that. I am sure i have posted questions or thoughts already trying to sort out if this one of my problems. Seems the late spring i have flare ups as well as going into the late fall and early winter. Pretty sure i am going to start pressing my care team to start looking down the allergy path. I have all of my data from the last three years and can show the trends. Nin
Oh yeah food is definitely a trigger and I was thinking about allergy etc. I had an allergy test everything was negative, so bit baffled to be honest. I've eaten nuts all my life, now they're triggering me, even toothpaste so I figured out which ingredient in the toothpaste and fine with this one I got. I even reacted to the mould spray the other day (mind u I didn't have a mask on) but that stuff wouldn't have done that back in the days. MikeO
Thanks @Ninfor queuing in. I really suspect some kind of allergy thing going on. Ironically my daughter called me yesterday to tell me about getting in to see an allergist. She has been dealing with some of the same issues that i go thru for the last few years. After being poked and prodded by a GI specialist they came up with the conclusion that she has some histamine intolerance going on, she is so relieved to finally get some help. I just hope i can find a way to sell this to my PCP.
Nin
Yes its trying to convince them to look into it. I suspect mine is a histamine intolerance. They just said we don't offer testing at our hospital so thats the end of it. Its mad how you can have so many things going on and it could be multiple different conditions and you're just trying to figure things out for yourself. JaneEyre9
Yes, bone broth made me feel awful due to the histamine. You're not alone! My diagnosis was intestinal permeability (leaky gut) and later an intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Addressing these things and changing my diet has helped me! I swear my nose would turn on like a faucet while eating this. I was feeling like a bit of a outcast but you have given me some hope to grab on to. JaneEyre9
For gut healing, I do pretty well with the brand "Perfect" collagen. They sell it as a box of individual packets. For probiotics, some common strains will produce histamine, but if you Google, you can find strains that will actually lower histamine. Custom probiotics sells d-lactate free, and Klaire Labs makes an infant formula. Both have helped me!
Relax86
I also had trouble with bone broth and kept making my own and pushing myself to include it for some sort of elixir to my POTS and gut issues. I also have celiac disease. Histamine foods all have triggered me way more than gluten foods did. In fact, I never had typical celiac reactions to gluten. I finally went completely gluten free which overall wasn't very helpful. Due to continued stomach pain I was prescribed Pepcid for my chronic inactive gastritis and it helped reduce all my food sensitivities. My stomach pain ended up finally resolving once I gave up my favorite thing - Advil (I was taking 8+/day), my resting HR came down quite a bit after being gluten free but it took close to 8 months for that to happen. It was an unexpected benefit of finally committing to a gf diet. This was a long winded way of saying YES to bone broth always triggering a flare. Good luck MikeO
MikeO
Thanks @Nin @JaneEyre9 @Relax86 for your support. Not sure where this is going to end up but i am on board that food/allergies has a part to play with some of my issues as i have noted it. @JaneEyre9for a number of years i have looked at probiotics but never tried any outside of yogurt (be honest don't even understand them) I did look up custom probiotics i may give them a try. JaneEyre9
Hope the probiotics help - i definitely had to start off slow (think fraction of infant dose) for at least a few days to see how I felt. They are concentrated! The custom probiotics guy may send you a small sample for a reduced price if you ask him. I forgot to add that a treatment of Biocidin paired with GI detox was also very helpful for me to kill off bacterial overgrowth and "mop up" the bad stuff without feeling like garbage. (Started very slow with that combo as well) An integrative medicine MD may be helpful to you if you can find one in your area.
