Eagle3312
HI. I have this weird symptom that when i get a massage, I have severe chest discomfort, weakness, lightheadedness and palpitations. I was wondering if others have experienced anything similar? I had no problems with massages before when i started experiencing pots symptoms.
Bigskyfam
What oils did they use? I found that when I'm lying face down for long period of time I feel weird after and my body has a harder time. So if my hubby gives me a massage it's with my head up higher than my heart
Batik
I don't do well with massage over the chest area, and she needs to use light pressure over the lung area when doing my upper back. Also I drink water with electrolyte tablets in before and straight afterwards, and often have a snack if I feel lightheaded afterwards. I like to take Sesame Snaps, they are small but work well in this respect. They're half glucose, which I seem to need in this situation, and half sesame seeds, which provide protein and such. Eagle3312
Yes it might have something to do with lying on my stomach for long. I feel some what better when using a couple of pillows to have my head elevated. I haven't tried hydration before a massage though, so will give that a shot next time. Katybug
Do you have adrenaline surges in general? Once I started having adrenaline surges from my dysautonomia, even pleasant sensations could set off the surges and cause the symptoms you describe. yogini
It could be many things - from lying in a certain position, to the type of massage, the firmness of the pressure, or touching particularly sensitive areas of your body. For example, they could be pressing something in your neck that triggers POTS. POTS patients can be very sensitive. Luckily for me, massages make my symptoms better. I do have to give some instructions - I tell them to stay away from my stomach, chest and spine
TCP
Could be your nervous system reacting to the stimulation.
corina
Massaging certain parts of my lower back can makeme feel very dizzy. I am being treated by my pt for over a year now so he knows exactly where and when to stop. It took me some time to understand what was going on at first though and what was causing the dizziness
SarahA33
Eagle,A catecholamine blood or urine test is usually used to see if someone is having spike's or surge's of adrenaline. That's great that you are going to the Cleveland Clinic! You are located in Colorado right?
Eagle3312
Sarah,I had urine catecholamine 24 hour tests done which was normal. But I was wondering if there are short term surges that can be detected. Really hope i get a diagnosis at Cleveland. Yes I am in Colorado and we don't have many POTS/ Dysautonomia experts here.
