cmreber
I've been having some stomach issues since the end of Feb and my GP is sending me to a GI specialist for some tests, etc. But starting last night I was drinking some water (same bottled water brand I'd had all day) and it tasted weirdly sweet to me. So much so I asked my husband to try it. He said it tasted fine. Now, all of today, same thing. It almost tastes like I had some sort of artificial sweetener after I have any water. Nothing else seems to taste weird...just water??? I really don't know if this is a new symptom or what. Anyone experience this?Hope you all have a good night! lejones1
I've had this happen before a few times. Sometimes I used to get really nauseated and thirsty at the same time, and water would taste sickly sweet to me. So strange! It always seemed to pass. Really no idea what would cause it though. sue1234
I've had that happen off/on for a couple of years. I've noticed it, but never actually wondered why it happens. Thought it was just ANOTHER one of my quirky issues. Let me know if you find out what causes it!
cmreber
Thanks guys! At least I know I'm not the only one lejones1, it's funny you mention the nauseated and thirsty combo, because that happens to me all the time first thing in the morning. I'll be so thirsty and dehydrated but then I take a drink of water and feel like throwing up. It usually passes within 30 minutes to an hour though, fortunately.sue1234, I feel the same way sometimes. Whenever something new pops up it's almost like, should I even bother mentioning it? lol So much seems to go weird with our bodies all the time! I'll definitely let you know if I ever figure out what causes it!
Becia
Yes, a lot. But I've also been dealing with a lot of nausea and vomiting lately, so I think my entire mouth is just off.
blueskies
Ever since I had an adverse reaction to a med last December I've had a sort of sweet but sickly taste (sort of like some horribly nasty candy) in my mouth that comes and goes. Not sure what it is, but am relieved to hear others have taste issues too. I am wondering if it's psychological in my case. Anxiety/depression can cause some weird stuff. And since November/December my anxieties have been off the scale. I just hope it's not something to do with my digestive system which is way to slow and sometimes stops completely. I had the taste in my mouth for hours early this morning but at this moment no weird taste at all. I also have smell issues too. Most of the time I can't smell anything but some days I can, on occasion I can smell very sharply -- rare but it happens. Just a while ago I was with hubby in the car after he'd picked up a hamburger to bring home and eat, and I could swear I was smelling bleach. We got home, he ate it, and all I could smell then was that too much grease smell. The bleach smell was gone. Crazy stuff! blue
Goschi
Very interesting topic!! Prior to my Pots illness, I always felt that water tastes "metallic", regardless whereever in the world I drank it. Since I have Pots, water tastes "normal" (=without any taste) to slightly "sweet". I always thought this is just me, never even mentioned it to a doc or someone else. Terrier
Could be worth getting some ketone testing strips from the pharmacy and seeing what they say. I've been told mine have been elevated once or twice without it really being followed up on or monitored over a period of time, guess they weren't overly concerned about it!I eat low-ish carb but probably not low enough to be in ketosis all the time yet I get a sweet taste in my mouth a lot, especially during and after exercise. It'd be interesting to know how this ties into POTS, if all all.
