abbyw
Hi all,As I have posted many times, I am taking an SSRI and it has helped my POTS symptoms dramatically. I am left dealing with weight gain from the SSRI and extreme fatigue. I am not sure if the fatigue is a hangover from the POTS, or a result of the poor sleep I get on the SSRI.I take my SSRI in the morning to try to avoid the sleep issues, but it doesn't seem to help. Have any of you experienced this and what do you do to help? Thanks,Abby
Mytwogirlsrox
I had issues with celexa when I took it at night, I was up all night I switched to the am and was able to sleep better. Have you thought about exercise during the day to help you sleep at night or melatonin or magnesium?
abbyw
I tried magnesium once or twice and I remember feeling wired on it. Wierd, but true. I tried melatonin and it did nothing. I didn't see that exercise helped either. Thanks for the suggestions, though! Does the celexa help your POTS and are you gaining weight on it? Mytwogirlsrox
Benedryl maybe?Celexa really helped, I just weaned off it last week. My symptoms are back, but I wanna try going all nautrale .. I have gained weight, but I was trying too.. I lost 15-20 after my diagnosis
abbyw
I tried weaning off and my symptoms cam back after 2 weeks on 2.5mg less. One taste of those jitters and I was back on. I was also too thin before I started the SSRI. I weighed around 105lbs. Now, I am up to 125. At first I didn't mind - I looked gaunt, but now - it looks like I will just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger.....My husband says if I found something that works, I shouldn't try something else, but I don't want to keep gaining weight indefinitely. I have never tried anything else, this was the first drug that I tried. I am worried that if I experiment and then go back on, it won't be as effective the second time around.... cyndi75rose
Sounds kind of bad to use a drug to stop the side affects of a drug but I have the same issue with my cymbalta, I wake up frequently all night and never get good sleep. I started taking a xanax to help me sleep. I take them more as needed but when I am having a bad night I get up take one and usually I am out til morning. I don't want to get off the cymbalta cause it helps me a lot with my nerve pain. Its hard to figure out which is worse.
abbyw
I imagine you mean Xanax (anti-anxiety)? Not Zantac (for heartburn, etc.)
cyndi75rose
Yes omg how ridiculous of me. I totally meant that. lol Thanks.
Mytwogirlsrox
My symptoms are coming back too... I just wanna see if I can manage with excercise etc.. I figure, it works so if I need to go back on, I will. We sound similar, I was 108 and crying that I couldn't gain weight now, I'm 120 and feeling chunky lol.. I'm not going to complain though, for awhile there I was soo upset that I cried and cried thinking something was horribly wrong with meand that's why I was so skinny.. Nope, guess I just wasn't enjoying all the foods I do now
Lemons2lemonade
That is interesting, my ssri helps me sleep. In fact, it was a godsend because I was going 2-3 days without sleep due to adrenaline. I also am having the weight gain though
Debbie Rose
Wow! I have been on 3 antidepressants for forever for Clinical Depression, Fibromyalgia. The one med does help me sleep too...But I guess they won't help me with Autonomic symptoms though
Guest Alex
hi thereI'm glad to hear you guys found SSRI's helpful.I tried citalopram for a week (lowest possible dose) and I had horrible reactions from it - insomnia, mood swings, labile blood pressure, heart rate all over the place, shaky and jittery ...yuck.My neuro explained to me that because my serotonin levels were(are) not low so the "treatment" actually produced an elevated sympathetic tone - hence my reaction(s).I guess in my case no matter the SSRI I'd try I would have the same issues.Alex
