Elegiamore
http://www.medindia.net/news/view_main_print_new.aspPublished in the Journal of Hypertension, this article, released on the 15th, states that "excess" salt consumption increases blood pressure because salt INCREASES release of norepinephrine! The articles states that volume overload has limited affect on blood pressure because they found the extra fluid just plumps up capillaries, not increasing bp. OMG! What does this say to those who force salt but have hyper POTS? What is "excess" salt? Can those of us with low salt readings even HAVE excess salt?Would one bag of saline too many move somebody with POTS from improvement to high NE/worsening by bringing on "excess" salt? Or one bag of chips, eaten to increase your salt load, shoot up your NE? Should NONE of us be forcing salt now?Hope to hear your thoughts. Lemons2lemonade
You know, I take salt every day but I swear there is a limit. If I eat something salty on top of this it can make me symptomatic within about a half an hour
julieph85
I couldn't agree more. I think excess salt is only good for orthostatic hypotension because they need the norepinephrine! Us hyper pots I don't think benefit. I know when I salt load I feel worse but so far no doc will listen.

Serbo
couldn't agree more, seems to be a fine balance between enough salt and to much. I fi feel i've had to much i have a banana which helps balance it out.I am on DDAVP which makes it even more of a precarious balalcne
ramakentesh
the article didnt work for me. I am not overly concerned about sodium, since many of us demonstrate low renin and ald.
RichGotsPots
adding salt didn't help me at all, actually cutting back on salt has help a little...
E246
Both my docs have advised not to increase salt. Said the studies were erroneous.
