Bad news at DR.

I had an appointment with my vascular surgeon yesterday to check the progress on the blood clot in my leg. Originally they wanted to keep me on coumidian (blood thinners) for 6 months. Well due to the damage they want me to stay on it for life. As if things aren't bad enough right now. I guess I've been uspet because. All I've really wanted in life is to have a family. I want children so bad and I know I would be a wonderful mom and my husband will be a wonderful father. The doctors are really concerned about the risks involved not only with pots but the odds of me getting another clot are great. You cant get pregnant on blood thinners. I know there are other options and I'm willing to pursue them....not until I am well of course, but I guess it's just depressing.

So sorry just needed to vent

So sorry to hear your news. For now you need to rest and focus on taking care of yourself. But, I so understand your desires and feelings of sadness. I believe that for nearly every challenge in life there IS a solution. Things might not work out as you planned, but there is often more than one way to realize a goal. Or, other opportunites arise as previous opportunities evaporate.

I have one daughter, but will not have any more biological children. I believe it is too risky for me being that I am over 35 and I had a very difficult pregnancy due to POTS the first time. Sometimes I feel sad about this reality, even though it is in the best interest of my health. Adoption is always there as an option, as is foster care, for me. There are many needy children on this planet, in our communites, sad but true.

Sending healing thoughts your way.

Take care, Katherine

Mindylee,

Although Coumadin is contraindicated in pregnancy, Lovenox (the injectable form of blood thinner) is not. If I get pregnant again, I will be taking daily Lovenox injections to prevent a clot, because I have a genetic clotting disorder. If having children is something you really want, you should meet with a high-risk OB (perinatologist) who can tell you more about risks and such.

Sorry you're feeling down and that you've had to suffer a clot so early in life.

Mindylee,

I am sorry you have received this news. It seems with POTS we have to make many accommodations to our lifes but your health is most important. Right now try to focus on getting better. And remember, although doctors have said they want you on the thinners for life, that CAN change. Give yourself time to heal from this round of problems and then visit with a specialist as suggested above. You should gather all the information before making any permanent decision.

I know this is a very emotional time for you and while it is easier said than done, I hope you can set aside the longer term decisions and concentrate on what you need to do right now to get back to your normal baseline. Feel better soon!

Dear mindylee, when we get bad news it is difficult to know what the best next step is because we are still processing the new information. Take it slow and the answers will come to you. You may choose to consult with other knowledgeable doctors about the latest in the technology.

It is normal and good to vent, I know you will figure this all out.

Take care, tearose
