gertie
I've read everything I can find on SSRI's for treating IBS- chronic constipation. Have any of you had a positive outcome by taking any AD for constipation? If so, which SSRI? I'm on my way to a dr's app't & I want to mention this to him. Thanks. juliegee
Hi Alicia-I've never taken the current generation of SSRI's. The last time I was on an antidepressant, it was elavil (a tricyclic, I think) for migraine prevention. It had the exact OPPOSITE effect. At that point in my life, I had IBS-D and I had to begin taking daily fiber supplements to go. Be careful with an SSRI. Do some research & see if the experience is different now with the newer drugs. Best of luck. let us know what you and your doc decide.Julie
gertie
Thanks! I mentioned to my PCP today. He had at least heard of using SSRI's for IBS but had not heard of good results with it so I'm going to do more research before trying it.
