Janey
Hi Guys, I had a head/brain MRI today in the autonomic unit and wondered what aspects of dysautonomia they use tan MRI to diagnose? Does anyone know?Janey
mkoven
I;m no doctor, but I would guess they are looking at your brainstem and spinal cord. Brainstem is where much of ans originates. I see you have eds-- in particular they may be looking for chiari and related issues which can cause ans problems.
Broken_Shell
Checking for a chiari maybe?
potsgirl
Hi Janey,Sometimes there can be neurological issues that go along with or possible cause dysautonomia. I just had a CT scan done of my head (can't have an MRI due to my pacemaker) and it showed ischemic lesions and loss of brain volume, an abnormal amount for my age. I'm on my way to a neurologist, but they've brought up MS. It would certainly account for most of my symptoms....Cheers,Jana
sue1234
And, another option might be if they think you show signs/symptoms of Addison's disease. They might be looking at your pituitary if they think you might be having "off" endocrine function.
