Oh Gosh, Intestinal Pain Unbearable.

I have been having a horrible problem lately with intestinal issues. I am up right now, because my stomach is aching so bad from pains I can't lay down. I keep moving about and trying to get relief but no use. I am reading on here that this is a symptom of POTS.

I have never had an issue with my intestines before the last couple months. My intestines are aching like this raw ache pain and it hurts so bad. Is this typical POTS like upset stomach? I feel ill over it. I feel like I am really going to get sick. It was this bad a month ago as well. It went away the next day last time, but I still have the minor intestinal issues that continue.

Sorry you are in horrible pain but you really need to be asking a DOCTOR about this.

Yes, many of us develop gut issues but words like 'severe pain' concern me and are good for feedback on a message board but please, call your doctor or see somebody ASAP.

good luck. Keep us posted after you see a doctor.

ps Do you feel this way after a big meal with gluten (All breads, pasta, etc unless GLUTEN FREE have gluten) Celiac or gluten issues can build up and wax and wane but can cause bloating or diarrhea or severe pain. Others have other symptoms besides G. I. Still SEE your doctor and not a diagnosis from any of us, ok?

:P

I often have the stomach issues with pain that is unbearable and often even causes vomiting. I was prescribed Levisin. It can be taken daily or it can be taken at the first sign of trouble. This medication stops the spasms in your intestines and greatly reduces the pain. I have had no side effects from the medicine.

Hi,

I too second the need to see a dr. I have too had these kinds of symptoms, normally due to eating too much, eating the "wrong" thing, or stress etc that leads to more digestive stress. I saw the most of this after my appendectomy years ago and continue to see it some with the IBS/GERD and with eating too much of a food trigger. I think sometimes this pain can also be caused by the blood that should be helping you digest food after meals etc. not being able to assist with digestion due to the brain etc. needing it if you are hypotensive etc. with dysautonomia symptoms which can cause cramping.

I hope you can find some relief!

I was up most of the night last night from the pain. I am pretty pain tolerant so for this to put me in agony it must have been pretty bad. I woke up still hurting so I went to the doctor. She said that I was really distended. She told me to make an appointment with a gasterontolgist, so i see someone tomorrow. She got me in quick since I am in so much pain. I love her for that. I am still really sore, but the spasms are gone, and I was able to eat a little today and drink. I couldn't drink or eat last night since I felt like I was going to get sick if I did.

I hope it is nothing, but if it is somethign I hope it can be easily worked out. Thanks for the info and advice.

Good luck with your appointment! A couple of years ago I spent an entire summer almost crippled with stomach pain and on vicodin (almost got addicted...it was before my pots diagnosis) However, I am almost positive this was pots pain, as I still get it now and have talked with my dr about it. Yours sounds different, though, so I'm glad you went to see your doc!

I hope your appointment with the gastro went well. Your pain sounds like what I had when I was having my worst POTS symptoms. I was terribly distended and couldn't eat. I felt like a knife was stabbing into me. It was hard to even breathe normally. I was also put on Levisin like Mandasmom to relieve the spasms. It really did help, and I only had to take it when I was having symptoms, not everyday. I sure hope you have good news.

Well I have a CT scan set up for Tuesday. The doctor thinks I have an internal hernia, so we will see how this plays out. I may need surgery. YAY. I am not good with anesthesia. I am hoping it is not a hernia. I would love for it to be a poor diet issue, but I don't think it's that unless I have developed some allergy to something. We will see what Tuesday holds for me. UGH! It never ends.

Hubby joked today and said if I was a car he would have to turn me in on a lemon law. :)

hi sarct -

i'm just getting to your post now b/c - ironically enough - my abdominal/ intestinal pain has been particularly severe for much of the past 2 days such that i haven't been able to reply. go figure, eh? :) so sorry that you're dealing with pain to the degree that you are currently but so glad to hear that you're being attended to promptly by docs as that's definitely not always the case. i'm sure the idea of surgery isn't too thrilling for you, but try to take a deep breath until you know for sure what you're dealing with. and - as wacky as it might sound - know that if you find out you do indeed have a hernia & that surgery is the way to fix it, you'll have at least one person who is incredibly jealous!!! of course i wouldn't be jealous of the surgery part, but if there was a surgical option to resolve or even improve my pain i'd jump at it in a heartbeat!! i am NOT saying this to minimize all that surgery entails (as i've several operations in the past year alone) but only to - hopefully - give you a bit of a grin B) . i realize that i'm taking a bit of a risk in employing my dark sense of humor with someone who is newer to the board & doesn't know me well, so if it's not your thing then i wholeheartedly apologize.

seriously, though, i do empathize with the abdominal/ intestinal pain issue. i have some level of abdominal pain/ discomfort almost all of the time but it has reached new heights over the past few weeks to the point that for over two weeks i didn't get in more than 2-3 hours of sleep at a time and was thus, on top of everything else, beyond exhausted. thankfully we're managing my pain a bit better but it still gets unbearable at times so i truly "get" how limiting and all-encompassing it can be. my pain isn't something that has a fix (combination of psuedo-obstruction, inflammation, & adhesions in & around my intestines) so i truly hope that yours does!

it's not uncommon for those with autonomic problems to have some GI issues but severe pain falls outside of what's typical. so glad that you've already been able to see not only your primary but the specialist & hope you have the answers you need (& thus relief) soon. of course it would be extra great if there's an answer/ solution that doesn't include surgery, but most of all i just hope there's a solution for you!

let us know when you find out more...

B) melissa

p.s. don't know if you're tried it or if it's something that will help the pain you're having, but i'm addicted to my heating pad! it doesn't take the pain away but makes managing it a bit better.

I have not been on for a couple days as I have been going through tests and such. What an ordeal, my word.

I hope thatyou too will come to realize I have quite the sense of humor as well. I think it's great that you can bring humor into this, because at the end of the day sometimes we can only laugh at what we are going through. I don't offend easily. it takes quite a bit. I will almost always laugh along with you.

I am so sorry you have such a chronic pain. I really can't imagine having this pain unending. I truely am sorry, and I am grateful that if it is a hernia I will be able to get it treated. I am not sure what that entails, but I do feel fortunate that it isn't somehting worse. I have been afraid to address it for fear of learning that I am going to have to live with it and once again there is no cure.

I have not tried a heating pad, but if this pops again I sure will think to use one next time. Thanks for the tip. Right now I am doing fine. The doctor said if it is a hernia it can go in and out and come and go, so just becuase the pain is gone doesn't mean it isn't a hernia still. I shjould find out everything by Tuesday.

Thank you for your words. I really wish there was something to help you and others afflicted with chronic intestinal issues. They certainly are a misery. Who knows. Mine still could be.
