sandra.p29
Does anyone have an increase in symptoms, issues following food
Hannah C
I do! I've noticed that foods heavy in carbs/sugars impact me the most. (POTS)
MomtoGiuliana
Yes when I had severe POTS I would feel worse after meals. Particularly in the morning. From what I understand this can be bc blood pools to the abdomen as you begin to digest your meal which excacerbates low blood volume. I would feel worse if the meal was large or high in carbohydrates. Many POTS patients feel best with smaller meals throughout the day and more protein and fat and less carbs. Also more fluid of course. Obviously dietary changes would be something to discuss w your doctor.
little_blue_jay
Yes, very much so. As others said high carb meals made it worse. Although at its worst it used to happen with something as light as a small bowl of salad, at times could not even finish it.

Dear @little_blue_jay - I have found that raw veggies are very hard to digest. Although I do love a salad I was advised to stick to blanched, steamed or boiled veggies. This has been very helpful to me. Whenever I "sin" and eat raw veggies I pay for it with 2-3 days in bed!

Yes, I've heard raw veggies are harder to digest. 2-3 days in bed, wow!!! 🤯 Was this a POTS specialist who told you that?
Pistol
@little_blue_jay No, it was my GI specialist, as well as a dietician

MikeO
@sandra.p29@little_blue_jayFood can be tricky for some of us folks with pots/dysautonomia. Reluctantly i have been keeping track of what i eat daily. This has helped me weed out some of the foods that seem to cause me flare ups. A simple tomato, spinach and feta cheese sandwich will spark off palpitations for hours. When i run into GI flare up's a simple salad seems to help, just lettuce and cucumber (small portions to start). Like other folks i try and stick to several small meals throughout the day. I am a grazer. @PistolI totally SINNED 10 days ago. I ate a Biscuit breakfast sandwich on my way down to the clinic and have been paying for it since. Whats odd is it seem like my colon started spasming (this is new for me) and is painful.
Pistol
@MikeO - did the sandwich include seeds of any sort, or was it greasy? Have you asked your doctor about diverticulitis?

Have you asked your doctor about diverticulitis? No seeds but the sandwich was one of those gas station one's so you never know whats in it. UW wants me to get a colonoscopy (i am due anyways) I am just waiting on my cardiologist to get back to me before i reach out to my PCP. They got involved because the spasms persisted and only resolved with a nitro tab (first one lasted 20 mins) or by getting off my feet. We are sure it is not a heart issue (my recent workups were stellar) but the episodes are felt nonetheless in the chest area.

Mike, the effects of that sandwich are lasting 10+ days?! I'm wondering if you're Celiac or at least gluten-intolerant? I react badly to gluten too despite testing negative for Celiac. It makes me tachy and very thirsty and bloated. I avoid it like mad now.

For now i went back to eating just the foods i know i do ok with and my (Universe) has been restored . I am seeing my PCP next month and will push the problem. I am just afraid by doing so will only end up with a bunch of tests and no real resolution.
