CJ65
Hello All I’ve been on Guanfacine for several years. It’s the most helpful drug in my arsenal but still makes me extra fatigued. I’m on 1mg am and 2 mg pm. Have any of you weaned Guanfacine? If you have how did you go about it? Cut pills? I put in a message to my NP at Vanderbilt and of course I’m asking you all since you’re the ones experiencing the wean! thank you and happiest stress free holidays! CallieAndToby
The pills can be scored and you can probably go down a half, then, 3rd, then 4th of the pill. At least I was taking 1/4 of the 1mg at one point but it caused me to be very tired as well.
CJ65
Thanks @CallieAndToby22 great advice! I’m going to try 1.5mg tonight instead of 2mg and will watch for several days. Fingers crossed!
Pistol
@CJ65 I weaned off guanfacine and it was easy. Hopefully you are taking the Tennex version, which is regular release tablets? Those can be halved and even quartered. Make sure you take your time weaning off. I cut half a tablet every week until I was done and had no problems. My sister was on the Intuniv version, which is extended release. and she had a heck of a time because those cannot be cut or even reduced. Oh, and when I got to the lowest dose my doctor told me to take a half tablet evey other day for a week.
