gertie
Does anyone use nitroglycerin for their POTS or vasovagal syncope symptoms? I'm afraid it would trigger my migraines or seizures since it dilates blood vessels. Thanks.
gackedo
Nitroglycerin causes relaxation and dilation of blood vessels which leads to hypotension, especially orthostatic hypotension. I'm not sure what role it would ever play in the treatment of POTS.
username
Nitro is sometimes administered during tilt table tests to TRIGGER a pots episode (in my case the worst I've ever had), I've never heard of it being used as a treatment. gjensen
I have a quick acting nitroglycerin subscription for coronary vasospasms that is related to my POTS. I could not imagine it being used for anything else in POTS. I could not imagine a worse drug for vasovagal syncope etc. That would be like giving someone cocaine to slow their heart rate. Is this something you have been prescribed? There must be something more specific in mind.
Katybug
Nitro was also administered to me during the last 10 minutes of my tilt test. I have never been more afraid in my life. My heart rate shot up even more (it was already lingering around 145). My body literally started to vibrate like it had a motor in it. I started to dry heave, chest pain, became presyncopal, knees buckled several times, etc.. To be honest, I thought I was having a heart attack. I wouldn't let them administer nitro to me again if I had to have another ttt. I was terrible.
issie
It can be used for a severe mast cell reaction along with antihistamines. It saved my life one time. It also made me have lots of questions as to whether or not I needed to vasodilate or vasoconstrict. I have HyperPOTS and more high bps. With me, vasodilating to increase blood flow has been a better option for me. There is a fine line though. Too much and that's not good either. Different subset types.
