Medicaiton Sensitivity

I was wondering if there are others out there on this site that have experienced a difference when your pharmacy changed generic brands. I have been taking Remeron (antidepressant) and Buspar ( anti anxiety) meds for about 15 years. I first noticed a problem when I changed to mail order Buspar, and I felt like I had been hit by a truck. Could hardly get up for work each day. After 2 weeks, I made the connection to having been on the mail order version, and switched back to my pharmacy brand. Within a few weeks I felt back to myself. Since I had a 90 day supply of the mail order, I later tried it again,(before throwing them away), and the same thing occurred. The same type of thing happened when my pharmacy changed generic companies for Remoron. I bought the brand name this month, which was expensive! Pharmacy is trying to get the Mylan brand I was used to, but it is on back order.

My doctor asked if it was "all in my head". Funny it doesn't happen with any of the other meds I am on.

I have read some of the other topics on Florinef. I take 0.1mg every morning, along with a beta blocker, Bystolic. My doctor wants me to take a half of Florinef each day to see if I can do on less. I did it the week before the appointment, waiting to see the doctor for the refill, and did not notice a big difference, but thought more chest heaviness than usual. He sent the refill electronically, and we had bad weather, so I did not have any of the med for two full days. I felt terrible. I took a whole pill today and yesterday, but he still wants me to try half. I am scared to tell you the truth. I am trying to get an appointment with my cardiologist to get his opinion. I had not been seeing a specialist(so to speak) since I had been stable on my meds. Any experiences anyone would like to share would be appreciated.

I have been diagnosed with POTS and CFS for 6 years.

My mom has to take only a certain brand of cimetidine or it makes her sick and her hair falls out. She has to go to a certain pharmacy that carries the brand she can take. Sometimes they get another brand but are willing to order the needed brand for her when she needs a refill. The pharmacist said it's probably the additives and preservatives that are the problem.

Thank you both for responding. I felt sure I was not the only one who had a problem like this with being sensitive to different generics. My pharmacist has been good about getting the brand of generics I needed for these two drugs until the one was on back order, which no one has any control over I guess except the company that makes it.

YES! I was just going to post about this. My doctor asked me why I was on Lexapro the brand instead of the generic and I told him because it upset my stomach. He seemed really skeptical. But it DOES make a difference. I have been on the same generic brand of metoprolol since my surgery a year ago, and last week I picked up my refill and it was a different generic brand. Guess what? It doesn't work. My resting heartrate at night on the old generic is 65-70. My resting heartrate at night now is 85 and was keeping me awake.

Also I have a second or third cousin who has schizophrenia and they tried to change what generic brand he was taking. They made him try the new kind and his symptoms, which were well-controlled on the other generic started getting worse.

Generics make a difference. They are very differentas different pharmacuetical companies put their own fillers in and there's no control on how the differences affect the patients.

They just took brand name Xanax off the market in Australia so I had to switch to a generic band. I reacted badly -- red, burning skin, weird medicinal taste in my mouth. When I looked up the in excipient ingredients (the extras) Xanax had 7 and the generic brand I tried had 9.

Neither my psychiatrist or my allergist thought this was weird nor 'all in my head.' Thank God.
