Merrill
What We Need Is HereGeese appear high over us,pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,as in love or sleep, holdsthem to their way, clearin the ancient faith: what we needis here. And we pray, notfor new earth or heaven, but to bequiet in heart, and in eye, clear. What we need is here.by Wendell Berry

Guest Julia59
Hey, really nice poem. I have learned to appreciate poems more since my son began to write them.My son wrote this about 3 years ago. I thought I would throw it in. I've posted it before, but some of you haven't seen it yet. Dime Store of Hopes and DreamsWandering in the shadows, alone and distraughtThe unquestionable strength of a few, ignored by the massesSo crass, so un-empathetic, no one understandsIt feels like no one ever will, all your zeal spentAt the dime-store of hopes and dreamsIn the middle of the night Spouse, mother, brother sisterAwoken by screams entailing those dreams unfulfilledNo one to turn to, a wasteland of unawarenessThe futile fruits of passionless practitioner?s laborMakes backwards strides in the context of you, hurtAt the dime store of hopes and dreamsDoctors look at full shelves of needs and wantsFor compassion, and healing energiesBoxes of broken homes, and broken heartsNot even acknowledged by so-called care-giversNot a care in the world to giveI am the son of a wanderer in the shadowsI too do not fully understand the extent of all thisBut I have bore witness to the pain, and the strengthIn no way can I put myself in your place, or say I ?understand? But I can say this: the war on ignorance is a war of attritionIn the dime store of hopes and dreams, you have found Your token of pride, your undying will to survive Mike J.
