Trouble Sleeping

Hey guys. I have never had problems sleeping at night untill now. I always could just go to bed and not wake up once during night. Lately I have been waking up several times during the night and I can't seem to sleep in anymore. This is really weird for me considering I never woke up during the night and slept in untill atleast 9 o clock. Now I am awake by 6 or 7 am and it is really frustrating tossing and turning all night. I thought it would of gone away by now but it's been going on for about a month now.

Does this happen to anyone?

Does anyone take medicine for sleep?

Thanks.

Yes, this often happens to me, too. I usually start tossing and turning around mid to late morning hours (3 - 4am) and get up about 5 - 5:30 am. Ugh. Then I'm so tired I either have to try to take a nap after lunch, and/or go to bed around 6pm, where I read for an hour or more. I'm usually asleep by 7 - 8. I take Trazodone to help me sleep at night, and Clonazepam (Klonopin) can also help. When it's bad, I keep a Benadryl on my nightstand with some water, which can help me fall back asleep if I'm lucky.

Reading also makes me sleepy, as does a warm bath an hour or two before bed. I've been told no tv or computers within an hour or two before sleep, and no exercise 2-3 hours before bedtime. Meditation is also beneficial. Wow - I'm starting to feel drowsy already!

Have you tried melatonin, 5htp or theanine. I use a combo of these and I'm sleeping again.

Klonopin has alot of side affects. All drugs do ..

Eating too late will cause insomia as will caffeine or foods that rev up your glutamate receptors. Gluten keeps me up ..

You asked if this was reated to pots .. Pots is a diagnosis of a group of symptoms. These symptoms are messages from your body that some thing is not right. Each symptom needs to be addressed and integrative or holistic doctors do this.

and by grouping these symptoms together and labelling us, traditional medical community has confused us and themselves. Symptoms are messages ..

Dysautonomia isn't pots. It's a message ..

Cleveland Clinic recently conducted a review of its pediatric dysautonomia patients. The most common problem was sleep disturbance. I understand studies on dysautonomia and sleep are ongoing at Vanderbilt.

I have had a problem falling asleep since I was a teenager. Luckily benedryl worked for years until my POTS flared. Now I take tizanidine (muscle relaxer) and klonopin.

Besides migraines, insomnia has been my daughter's greatest battle. We have seen 2 sleep specialists, gone through all of the sleep hygiene steps, tried biofeedback and nothing worked. If my daughter does not sleep, her POTS and migraines flare. She takes trazadone, clonidine, and tizanidine for sleep and POTS. She now swims 2 1/2 hours during the week, and she still has problems with insomnia.

I truly believe her insomnia is a brain issue. (and possibly genetic) Luckily my daughter's neurologist understands that my daughter has to sleep. The sleep specialists we saw did not understand at all. They told us she was going to bed too early. So we moved her bedtime to later and guess what.......she flared!!

I have sleeping problems because of POTS. It ***** because I never sleep really well or get to sleep late. I've tried the meds for it but they haven't helped me. The headache that I have constantly can keep me up too. I try to rest as much as I can though even if I can't sleep at night because resting is at least better than nothing.
