bensman
Darlene,I think I responded on an earlier post of yours. I live in Ohio and have been investigating mast cells the last several months. I saw an allergist in Ohio who does some testing, but is not an expert. So, I am traveling to see a mast cell specialist in SC in less than a week. There are very few doctors in the US who truly understand mast cells, how to accurately test for them, and can effectively treat patients who meet the criteria. Please PM me if you would like more details. And please let me know if you do find a doctor closer to Ohio that is very knowledgeable about MCAS.Kate
juliegee
Hi Darlene-My best advice would be to see a good local allergist. Tell him/her that you want to rule out mastocytosis. This can (generally) be done with a blood test called "serum tryptase." If it is high, you most likely DO have mastocytosis and can be seen by a good allergist/masto specialist in Cincinnati named Jonathan Bernstein. If it is normal, which it most likely will be as mastocytosis is very rare, you may want to make a trip to either Boston to see Dr. Mariana Castells or Charleston to see Dr. Lawrence Afrin. These are two leading masto specialists, that specialize in all forms of mast cell disorders, particularly MCAD. Take Care-Julie
bensman
Darlene,If you do decide to see Dr. Bernstein, please let me know. I have a few tips for you. Do you live close to Cincinnati? I only ask because your distance might decide if it is worth the trip. Kate
