I have done alittle reading on this forum about MCAD and it has spiked my interest.

I get lost reading the "Medical" type articles so if anyone could put in simple terms what this is, what the symptoms are, tests that are done, treatment and what type of MD treats/diagnoses this I WOULD LOVE IT!!!

Thanks!

Hi Liz-

In a nutshell, mast cell activation disorder is when a patient's mast cells are overly reactive. The symptoms and treatment of this disorder are very similar to mastocytosis where patients have too many mast cells. Here is a link from The Mastocytosis Society that describes BOTH disorders and the treatment.

A mast cell specialist- there are very few  - is the best doc to DX and treat this. But, many ANS docs are recognizing it & recommending the benign OTC frontline treatment of an H-1 and H-2.

Lots and lots to wrap your head around. Do searches on this site regarding testing, etc.

All the best-

Julie
