gertie
Have any of you had this for sedation for colonoscopy? Did you have a problem? I think it's an opiate but it sounds better than the long acting sedations. Thanks.

flop
Propofol is a short-acting anaesthetic drug, it is often given with an opiate medication if pain-relief is needed too but it is not an opiate itself. I have never had "sedation" for a procedure only local or general anaesthetics. I have had 2 general anaesthetics with Propofol and had no problems. It is often chosen because it works very quickly, wears off quickly, doesn't cause nausea, and does cause amnesia so patients don't remember procedures. It can sting when injected into veins but some anaesthetists use a small amount of local anaesthetic to prevent this.Flop
