How Long Lasted Your Ttt?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how long your TTT lasted. Mine had to be stopped after 15 seconds (in the upright position) because my HR went from 80 laying down to 160 being in the upright position. It had such an impact on my body, that i couldnt handle the massive symptoms any longer.

Now, i feel a little insecure because i read , that a TTT should last 30 minutes. I couldnt imagine what would have happened to me if this test would have lastet only a few minutes longer! I felt so terrible!

I just read on a different post, that somebody was concerned if panic or anxiety can produce a positiv TTT and one of the answers was: that

patients get very nerved up for tilt's and have a blunted HR response during the first part of tilt (first two or three minutes) and then they calm down and their rates drop to normal, all while still in upright position.....if the test had not been carried out long enough, these patients could have easily been misdiagnosed with pots/autonomic dysfunction, but waiting a little bit, 20 mins, to see if they calm or HR drops, is a good tool -- because generally someone who is "just nervous" will calm down after several minutes, and so will their HR response to their nervousness..........

By the way, i was only a little nervous but not anxious before the test and I have very much difficulties standing. To get trough my day, i have to use a chair with rolls on because otherwise i cant manage. Iam a little concerned now, because my TTT lasted in total only 50 sec. Does this mean i have to question my diagnosis now?

Thanks a lot

carinara,

my heart rate went from 90 supine to 200 within 8 seconds of upright tilt and stayed that way throughout 30 minutes of me being upright.......

a good way to test yourself, without being in an actual medical setting is to see what your heart rates are on a normal day, outside of a medical facility. see what your rates are like while in the comfort of your own home. supine and then standing. that perhaps will help you figure out or make any correlation to pots and/or anxiety.....

Hi cardiactec

i watched my HR over the last 10 years and i kept telling my doctor that something is wrong with me because my HR doubled up and I had loads of weired and bad symptoms whilest standing. There were times, were i was bedridden for weeks because my body didnt allow me to stand up.

The TTT was just the final test for me showing everybody and myself that something is wrong with me. I got diagnosed with POTS last summer. But like i said, the TTT got stopped after 50 sec. No way i could have handled it longer. Does my Diagnosis not count now? because the TTT didnt last 30 minutes? I got diagnosed in a autonomic section in famous university clinic here in germany. I think, that If the specialis who diagnosed me would have had any doubts about my TTT he would have never gave me this diagnose.

Or what do you think?

Mine was less than 15 minutes because after my heart rate shot up like a rocket, my blood pressure started to crash so low that the tech and doc decided it was such a positive test, there was no need for more. I'd lost the diastolic pressure altogether at 50/--. I started to feel like I was being pulled into the earth by heavy weights and that I was going to throw up at the same time. Off of meds, this still happens to me. And even on meds, it does sometimes (my bp was 60/-- after just about 2 or 3 minutes of standing in the cardio's office in Feb).

Carinaria:

The Tilt Table Test is only supposed to last until the patient becomes symptomatic or faints.

My first TTT at a hospital in Tucson they did not have any such concerns, they tilted me up and then waited (the tech told me, "this is either going to be very boring or very exciting". In twelve minutes by heart rate plunged to 30 and I fainted and totally freaked out the tech who pushed the panic button. Next thing I knew the room was full of people and the cardiologist was holding my legs up. As any on this forum can attest, fainting on the table is an extremely unpleasant experience.

Despite this I also went for more thorough autonomic testing including a second ttt in Boston. I was told by the tech at Beth Israel Deaconess Autonomic Testing Center that while most hospitals wait for patients to faint during the test, it is not necessary to do so and I guess some feel that this is cruel and unecessary to the patient. When he was testing me he kept telling me to let him know if I was feeling badly or was going to faint so he could abort the test. When I started getting the charateristic shortness of breath that proceeds my faint I let him know and he put me back down. This test was still positive for POTS as my HR increase more than 30bpm.

In your case it sounds like you had a highly positive test. If your neurologist or cardiologist or EP doesn't read it as so then you need to take the report and findings to a Dr with more knowledge of this syndrome.

Hi,

I had many TTT because I am a research patient. My HR can go up to from 40 to 250 and my BP from 220-170 to 0. My vitals can remain high for 5 minutes where I will feel like **** and then pass out with no BP. The reason they make me wait with high vitals is that I have syncope so they have to wait until I crash and I crash in 5 seconds.
